While I do agree that content is very important, when things like this happen I start to wonder... I've got a site in a niche that only has around 2,000 competing websites for a particular keyword. Now my page is full of videos, daily updated content, LSI keywords, backlinks etc. and it is on page 8 of Google. What is on 3 of the pages on page 1? A total of 3 skimpy blog posts from early November, no videos, and barely any links (my back links are far better!) Now I've come to the conclusion that because their pages are a couple weeks older then mine, I get hit with the sorry we missed ya tag. The funny thing is, I have another site that dominates it's niche (number 2 on page 1 out of 97,000) and when I don't post for a few weeks, my traffic rate rises yet every time I post something, my traffic dips for a week and then comes back...what gives? |

Though my team and I still crank out a lot of content for our network of sites and blogs, I've changed my views on a few things and now believe that paid advertising is king! With free publicity being queen! ![]() RoD

Content used to be king, but for now Good Quality Content is King. And in the not so distant future, User Experience will be King of them all |

Having videos on your blog and asking for comments will increase user experience... since Google is working on making user experience their main concern - why not start doing this stuff now?

Dose it contain a depth of LSI keywords? Are the links of real quality? Just how many times do people return to that site (a clue to how Google really operates these days?). In essence what makes your work better or worse than there's? Dig a little deeper - you'll soon see the solution? -Rich

Content alone won't get you anywhere unless you are really lucky. One of my favorite internet marketer, Gary Vaynerchuk, always says: Content is king but marketing is queen and the queen runs the household. The traffic/buzz you get to your page is also one of the factors in determining your rankings. But... There is no single factor that decides SERP. Write quality content, drive initial traffic and get backlinks by bookmarking and other ways you know. This should help you in getting better rankings in Google. Cheers Ramkarthik |

I don't know guys...I seem to be ahead of my competition on LSI, back links, videos, content, etc...what I'm seeing is that the sites that are ranking higher than mine are cached December 1st or later...mine has been cached november 27th but I've added tons of content since then! the fact that my site hasn't been cached in a while suggests that I don't have many quality back links but I do, in fact more then most of the competition...weird! |

Content is great, but you must optimize your page if you want traffic from Google. Is your keyword in the title? Is your keyword in the first 100 characters of the first page? Are you repeating your keyword too often? Is your keyword hyperlinked at least once? Are you using a long tail keyword phrase with sufficient traffic? Did you make sure you could rank on Google's first page with your keyword BEFORE expending your blood, sweat and tears? Just something to think about. |

Don't quote me, but I think there is also such a thing as too fast too soon. If you overdo it with content on a newer site it can actually backfire. It's best to do a little bit, see where you fall, do a little more, repeat. Google optimizing is a game of patience and skill. You play on their move, they don't play on yours. |

When people say content is king... You can see that in many different ways which can sometimes be confusing. To me it means making yourself stand out... I'm not talking writing out a bunch of text book type posts, I'm talking about being fun, user experience as big mike said and just the stuff that makes you stand out. To me "content is king" doesn't mean you get ranked high in Google, it means you get a ton of visitors to your site regardless or search engine rankings, you don't need them, you have raving fans.
