Blog commenting for backlinks???

Is this a waste of time?
Are the comments all no follow links?

I have no problem getting a comment to stick, but I don't know if they are doing me any good in terms of backlinks.

I have tried looking at 4 different backlink checkers and they all come up with very different numbers for all my sites.

Is there a reliable way to check backlinks?

Blog commenting is a good addition to any backlink building effort. Note that none of the backlinkers provide complete pictures of all of your backlinks. Unfortunately, that is the nature of the beast. I use a relatively expensive software to check backlinks (SEO Spyglass runs about $100, but pulls in data from lots of sources), but if I wasn't using that software I generally use backlinkwatch.

As for no follow, yes a good number of blogs have the no follow attribute assigned to comments. But, there are thousands upon thousands upon thousands of do follow blogs still out there.

This is discussed frequently in the adsense/SEO forum. Try doing a search for something like "dofollow blogs".
