Hello Everyone:

My wife's blog was hacked with a malicious script.

I am interested in how getting her posts, so she can start a new blog.

I can access the cpanel but not the FTP side.

Can anyone help me with a process to get the posts?

    Hi Charles,

Unless her blog uses flat file to save posts it should all be in the database and it that was not hacked thats where it will reside. You can get to database from your Cpanel.

Thanks...and is it pretty simple to get to the data?

Well, I will try to see if I can figure out how to get it.

It might just be the code that got hacked.
I would back up the database just in case,
then re-install the blog software. If it's
WordPress, don't install via the cPanel, do
    a manual install/upgrade.

    Hi

thats awful and i've found that it can be fixed by upgrading the wordpress that she has in place or changing the theme can make a difference.

One thing though - ive noticed that when you use the username "admin" they are easier to hack so if she has done this get her to have a different username this time.

    kind regards

You can get the posts by two ways. If you can still log into the backend, click on tools and then export and export the file to your hard drive and then import it into the new blog.

You can also go to your cpanel and click on phpMyAdmin and go to the correct database and export the database as a file. Then reverse that import the database into the new database. You need to have an empty database to import it.

    Hey Charles,

Everyone's advice here is pretty spot on. All you really need to do is log into your Cpanel and download the database. Then, you can upload the database into the new blog database.

But, in order to combat this you need to make sure that you're backing up your blogs every single day. This could be a time-consuming and tedious task. But, luckily being the powerful platform that WordPress is, there is a solution for that.

Someone has developed a plug-in that will allow you to automatically backup your database every single day and send it to you in an e-mail.

I put an extensive tutorial on my blog you may find helpful on backing up your database. You can find it here...

how to backup WordPress | backup WordPress blog database

So, whenever you get the new blog up and running make sure that you get this plug-in installed and have it backup everyday.

    Talk soon,
