Proxies And/Or Cookies?

OK, so I'm a bit confused about this stuff....

When I use a proxy and come here to WF, I'm still recognized... So, how then
is it of any benefit to use a proxy if you, for example, want to set up a number
of bookmark accounts wanting to use a proxy?

If WF recognizes my computer, even when using a proxy,
what good is it to use a proxy?

Would I need to delete cookies from the sites in order for the proxy
to make me anonymous? And, how would I do that without deleting cookies that I want
to keep?

Or, maybe I'm just barking up the wrong tree??

Thanks!
