Blogs and content?

My original article I posted may have been too long, it's in this main forum under "Chip'n away at IM.. Progress update" which seems to be on page 2 and sinking.

Question # 1
Is a blog with search volumes less than 300 (or Not Enough Data) using "Exact" or "Phrase" on Google Adword Keyword Tool.. hard to get to come up in Google search results? I've done just about everything I can think of to promote my free blog site but it's ranked at #475.

Question # 2
My latest free blog with an article, which is all SEO optimized indexed in Google, doesn't even make the top 1,000 in SERPs using the keyword the blog and article is built around. This is more of an experiment, but since I haven't reached the top 1,000 I'm guessing I simply need to write and publish more articles using my anchored keyword or is there a better way to approach this?
