Hey Guys

I just received an email from a marketer (didn't recognise the name) promoting something or other.

The email had links in it to 11 (yes 11) different sites, products, services, Twitter and goodness knows what else.

Delete!

Internet marketing rule #1 - don't give 'em too many choices. In fact, two's too many.

Get the basics right and the rest will fall into place.

Cheers,

Neil

Perhaps they are going by the "variety is the spice of life" philosophy.

    Indeed.

The copy itself was quite good and the link that he actually wanted people to click was embedded 2 or 3 times in the copy.

    So that was cool.

The rest of them came at the end and spoiled what could have been an effective mailing.

Right now, he'll be sitting wondering why his traffic hasn't spiked.

Some people really do make it seem like rocket science.

    Cheers,

Absolutely correct. In most of my testing, rev increases as product seleciton decreases. People have enough choices to mke throughout the day, dont make this too difficult for them.

At the end of the day you are trying to sell on peoples emotional response. By giving numerous options, this lets their rational side kick in...not something good for most of our products!

    Hey Kenster

Actually I think my response was emotional.

But negatively so 'cos I definitely clicked that delete button with some force!

    It works both ways.

They're like a virus, they just keep on growing and spreading. =) I receive so many SEO / IM emails now, I don't have time to read them all. I find myself falling back here to the Warrior forum for the best insights and information.

All the more reason to get it right, which was my original point.
