Just had the rather depressing news that I'm being made redundant

on Friday. Now more than ever I need to really try to earn some money online. My website is still only on page 5 of the google rankings, I have 2 articles that brought me a minor traffic spike yesterday but still no sales, anyone have any suggestions on either A) how I can improve what I'm doing to boost my ranking B) How I can improve my blog to get a better conversion rate or C) any other suggestion that could help me at least bring in some money in the next few weeks.

The blog is only 2 weeks old so I think being on page 5 of google is quite an achievement but I obviously want to improve and get myself on to page 1

I'm afraid to say Internet Marketing is a long term strategy and the only way in which you can succeed is by thinking outside the box and expanding your boundries. Actually think of a strategy that might work and then analyse WHY it might work. The calculation to IM success is really quite simple. For one revenue stream you need a product or service, whether it is an actual product or great content. You need a way to monetize these (if it isn;t a product), traffic and a system / copy to convert visitors into money.

I see lots of people come on here and ask people to tell them how to make money but really it is quite hard to do. There are SO many things that can be done... many of which haven't even been thought of yet.

My advice, look for another source of income whilst you are building your IM business. Even if its part time. Then read, read read. Don;t take everything as gospel but find out what it working for others. Look at who is succeeding with affiliate marketing, bum marketing, product creation, building lists, social media, video marketing, PPC etc.

If you are at this stage now and are expecting to see bucket loads of cash coming in from Adsense etc you may have a very long wait.

I wish you the best of luck and hopefully other people will come on here and give some good pointers. My advice though is to focus on finding a good product, something solid... maybe something new.. and then look at building a business model around that. This way, without a great deal of traffic you can still make some decent money.

I don't know your level of knowledge or experience though so I can't comment too much.

    Good luck.

    • You're right that strategy is everything. Definately keep your day job while you practice building an online business. I think it's all about researching to find the method that best suits your individual personality. Is it writing, video, websites, design, selling a combination of interests/skills? From affiliate marketing to product launches every angle has the possibility of working, but it takes time and patience. Most people have this misconception that IM is an overnight lottery winning payday. Maybe there are a couple lucky few, but overall that is very far from the truth.

      • I definitely don't have that misconception. My plan has always been to build up my IM stuff while working but unfortunately that has now been pulled out from under me.

I was just looking for some pointers on what I already have, as I have researched one thing that I'm trying I just wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions to improve what I'm doing.

Sorry, I hope this thread didn't sound like a begging thread, I was simply asking a more experienced IM'er to maybe look over what I'm doing and tell me what I'm doing right and point me in the direction on how to fix what I'm doing wrong.

Not at all. I just wanted to stress that making money online is usually 99.9% learning curve. As in.. keep at it.. and one day as you'll start to understand the mechanics of how IM works, the penny will drop. It's not always a case of learning... it's doing and more importantly, steering yourself in the right direction towards methods and techniques that work.

Sorry to hear that. I will give you some advice on how you can make money online.

From what i read, articles are getting you traffic, its time to scale. Write more articles and submit to article directories, bookmark them and pigg them to get them index fast. Don`t just depend on articles, build backlinks from High PR sites and watch your ranking fly high.

Also if you have a service you can offer like article writing, web designing, let people know about it and you can make some money offering a service.

Don`t depend on one site only. Go ahead and build more in diferent Niches. Put up some adsense on your sites and earn quick buck.

    Hope this help.Good Luck

? you will leave nothing at the door for hope is for people without a purpose or plan

you look at this as depressing news, i beg to differ

what is depressing is 70% of people work in jobs they do not like

you have been given a chance to test every bit of your courage and resolve and from where you see gloom you should be seeing opportunity, now is the time you have been called upon to stand and put your skills to the test.

Life s not a test, after your in the box you do not come back for another try, you have a golden opportunity to now walk the walk, so instead of hope, set a plan it may not be perfect at the start, every decision you make now will determine your outcome.

that being said also be realistic and as advised part of your plans may be to take some supportive work while you build, if so let that be but at the end of the day.

Being made redundant is a nightmare. However grabbing at IM as your saviour is a path to despair.

It is a long term strategy in so many ways, despite the impression people perhaps give when they are trying to sell you something.

What I am saying is, don't waste time doing IM rather than looking for a "real" job. You can get better at IM in your spare time to start with.

I'm sorry to hear about that - happened to me several years ago and it's quite a stunner (or at least was for me)

But, it can kind of be an advantage because now you HAVE to make money. It's not just "extra" money. It should spur you to act while others might not.

Anyway, one thing I wanted to say is that you probably have to write a LOT more articles than you think you do. That's what I found out. So don't just write a couple and then think "this isn't going to work" Keep focused and write hundreds.

The advice above is spot on .... IM is a long term thing. You're probably not going to make a lot right away so one way you could supplement is by writing articles for others. That way you have some money coming in but can still spend your spare time on your own site.

This could be your opportunity to never have to work for someone else again!

    • Thank you for all the awesome replies guys, I'm going to plug away at what I have and really try to maximise everything I already know about IM (not much compared to some on here ) and put it into practice.

In the meantime if anyone has any odds and sods they want done then give me a shout. Be it articles or whatever
