Default Illegal File Sharers - Weird trend going on!!

Hi

Can someone please tell me what on earth to do about this.
I have found some of my older products listed on membership sites!

I never EVER sold PLR rights to those products, but yet, these people are asking a 10th of the price and the buyer gets access to hundreds of paid products all at once.

I have seen at least 17 well known warrior's products sold on this brand new goon website. It's insane!!!

Do I send a DMCA complaint to the webhost?
What do I do? This is bull****.

Start with a DMCA to the host and complaints to the website owner. I've had success with DMCA complaints. But their host is offshore, somewhere where they don't care - this will not work.

A recent wso that i bought had a kind of a license which is unique for every one sold. It also checks the validity of the license when you open the wso and are connected to the internet.. Maybe that could be a solution for your future wsos.. But for the past ones i really dont know how you can change that.. My only thought would be legal proceedings that will surely scare them off.

I found a couple of my products on the same type of sites. I sent an email asking them to remove it with the threat of a DMCA ... They removed it. I regularly check now for my products.

This is a good topic.

I bought a number of programs either through giveaways or else places online and all have rights mrr or plr i decided to implement some of them in my membership site well they are available for use online cause i had some technology developed that allows for that. now you got me thinking. how do you ascertain if the products you now own with a license are legit if people are doing this?some of the products i got the source code for but that means beans to me because i am not able to do anything with it.lol.

Places the share files like a torrent place always share copyrighted products for free like microsoft or what have you but the servers that host them are in places like sweden denmark or whatever so it is nearly impossible to go after them they just laugh when microsoft legal dept says lawsuit because they are not subject to north american law. but if it is a membership site wouldn't it be possible to have a press release done naming the site and or products being stolen pass the word on to everyone and soon the site would be gone -no members. i dunno i am just saying

They'll just take the link of ..

and the product..

there's nothing much going to happen because the products can be uploaded, with a new URL and then you will have to make complaints on an on without any results.

I think writing to the website owner first is a smart choice. In some cases, the violation is probably a mistake.

All it takes is one person who passes on a product without the proper license (intentionally or not) and you have a lot of innocent parties who truly have no idea that they are doing the wrong thing.

Obviously, American laws don't apply in Europe, but piracy is as much illegal in Europe as it is in the US. If Microsoft wanted to prosecute anyone in Europe for piracy (carried out in Europe), they could do so relatively easily (in terms of initiating a prosecution once they had tracked them down).

I just removed this post.. there is nothing to disagree with me about. i was making a point. however. as of may 2009 sweden has now implemented an anti piracy law which will allow for copyright holders to go after criminally and legally anyone violating. Good for them!
on April 02, 2009 A new law designed to make it easier for copyright holders to go after illicit file-sharers came into force in Sweden yesterday. Interestingly, it looks like the IPRED legislation, which will also increase penalties and ultimately criminalize large scale infringement, has already resulted in a major drop in Internet traffic – for now.

Thanks for the comment paul. i don't lie so i simply get irate when i feel i am called one. so now that no one can hide(yay) we can actually do something using DMCA .

I was not BTW accepting legal advice from the pirate i knew this which is why so many porn and gambling sites used that avenue they were legally untouchable. however. now there is a new ball game. .

There is nothing to imagine. I have made a script which allows you to pinpoint exactly who shared your PDF.

I just made it as a programming test, don't even use it myself and I don't think it would sell well...

I have sad news for you guys. Illegal filesharing is here to stay and you can't escape it. I can pretty guarantee that if you have digital product, somebody will share it.

Don't waste your money on protecting your stuff. Especially if it sets ANY limitations to legit users. It just isn't worth it. And somebody will copy it no matter what. For example if you use Mac, you have this little utility called Grab installed by default. Grab let's you do screencaptures. So if somebody really wants & needs to make copy of your PDF that's been protected with million different protections, he or she just takes a screenshot from every page. Now it may sound ridiculous that somebody would do that but people don't value their time as much as we business people do.

All software can be cracked and I bet very few here or your outsourced programming teams can program a protection that can't be hacked in less than 1 hour. Yeah, it is really that easy nowadays. All it takes is few free programs and reverse engineering skills and you are good to crack.

But what you should do is to maximize your benefit from people pirating your stuff. Everything you put out should be done in a way that those people associate your name with quality stuff. Who knows if you some day do a live seminar or something else that can't be pirated easily.

Also you can do what we have done in the past and count on illegal fileshares as yet another marketing channel. We have launched few nice businesses because people shared the frontend product which included details how to get the more expensive backend product. It was never about the frontend product, it was the backend all along.

First, pointing out an error, or simply disagreeing, is a long way from calling someone a liar.

Second, and I'm sure this will shatter your worldview... The fact that an admitted thief posted something online does not make it true. Nor should you consider the rantings of a software pirate as dependable legal advice.

you file a DMCA once and they take it down. You file it again and they are suspended, so that's not exactly true.

Hmmm so you were saying?
I was saying... just because American law doesn't apply in Europe (regardless of what James Young, "Internet Investigator" might think!), doesn't mean pirates in Europe can't be prosecuted for illegal acts carried out in Europe. Believe it or not, the nations are Europe are quite capable of devising and enforcing their own laws.

For example, the author of the reply to that message ("anakata") has already been arrested by (Swedish) police, charged (under Swedish law) with assisting copyright infringement, and, along with his cohorts, found guilty in (a Swedish) Court and sentenced to a year in prison as well as being hit with a fine for 30 million Swedish krona (about U.S.$3 million). Afaik, their appeals are ongoing so (under Swedish law) the verdict isn't final until that is concluded. Their ISP was also forced by (the same Swedish) Court to stop doing business with them. Also, at least half a dozen other European governments have forced ISPs operating in their jurisdictions to block access to their (Anakata and his friends') site.

All that was done in Europe, by a European Court, under European laws, without anyone needing to, or trying to, apply American laws extraterritorially.

In the same way, if Microsoft wanted to prosecute pirates in a European country (for offences carried out under that country's jurisdiction), the fact that American law doesn't apply in Europe couldn't and wouldn't stop them. (And I doubt they would do it by sending e-mails to people signed by an "Internet Investigator" either.)

lHi Thomas,

Ok thank you i guess i read it wrong. happens sometimes.

I am glad that bugger got caught but in my edit apparently sweden just changed the law as of this year i came across that site while looking for an upgrade to vista a few yrs back as i couldn't find it on microsofts site but i came across the link a few links down the page offering windows vista i said what it isn't released yet so i checked it out and there it was for download that same message was posted and his same little garbage response. i thought to myself what a fool .

anyhow i did get my upgrade through microsofts beta program which i am a member of i just had lost the link when i contacted them i also let them know what i discovered they said thank you and that so many people were doing that they try to keep after them and on top of it but it is not always possible .

Anyhow i appreciate you saying you weren't calling me a liar and wish i could say i don't smoke either but i can't

so accordingly we can now and should take action any time we see our stuff or our fellow colleagues stuff being sold or what have you things are certainly changing.
