It is Too Early for Constant Contact/Aweber

One of the suggestions I received on this site about improving my tutorial site was to consider adding a newsletter subscription option for visitors -- but I'm wondering if it's too early to do so.

I have around 400 visits per month, 60-70% from search, around 60 articles, and only a couple of comments.

I usually update in spurts, so I really don't have a "weekly update schedule" to speak of -- unless of course I sent it out as a weekly site update and I just made sure that I added at least one tutorial per week.

$19/mo won't break the bank, but I don't want to waste money.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

From the day your website goes live and gets visitors, you should be building a mailing list.

Don't make the same mistake I did when I first started.

Well that solves that definitively. What is the best way to start the mailing list? With a weekly or a monthly?

I would honestly go weekly. If you go monthly many people will forget about your mailings and just dismiss them. With that said your weekly mailing should be of value and help people out. Make sure to do you best at trying to make the mailing each week around the same time and same day. That way people start expecting and looking for your mail

I use Constant Contact for my offline business, sending out a weekly newsletter. When I started the list seven months ago I had 60 email addresses, now I'm closing in on 700. It's well worth it. Although I don't overtly sell anything in the newsletter, I do feature one product per week. Without even mentioning price, I've found that my featured product's sales triple the week that it's featured, and at least double for the week after that. Anyone doubting the importance of a list needs to stop doubting and start doing.

Well really all that I want to do with my newsletter at this point is
      1) drive traffic to the site by announcing new content
      2) get user feedback on what tutorials that they'd like to see.

Now I'm going to go find some threads here about how to do the mailing list thing the "right way" so I don't waste time.

      Thanks.

With Aweber you can add your RSS feed so your new content is sent out automatically whenever you update your site.
You can also broadcast anytime you want to get feedback or make a sales pitch etc.
