HELP! I am still running wordpress 2.2.2 on my blog. How do I...

Yes!

One of my blogs is so old it is still running on version 2.2.2

I want to upgrade to the latest version, 2.8.6.

Since the auto upgrader feature is not available in the old
version I am running, I was wondering if upgrading is as
easy as downloading the latest version and uploading all
the files.

If you know the answer to that, please let me know.

Thanks,
Jason

    Hi Jason

You have to follow the steps on WP's Upgrading Wordpress page. (Sorry, I can't post a link yet.)
Scroll down to where it says Three Step Manual Upgrade.

That is the only way to do it and it's not that hard. I had to do it on several of my old blogs as well.

The auto upgrade they have now sure it great though!

    Jason,

The only file to really be concerned with is the wp-config.php file. It sets the database for WP and additional info to run.

I would take the suggestion above before you do and be aware of any plugins or mods you have made, that you don't want to lose.

    Thanks,

    John

    Disable all your plugins.
Download new files, upload and overwrite the old ones.
    Run /wp-admin/upgrade.php
    Enable all your plugins.
    Or update and then enable.

    That's it.

    PS!:
Back up your old files and the DB first...

Totally simple... Installing WordPress WordPress Codex

It's a matter of over-writing all files - except for your wp-content folder.

You should be able to do this in 5 minutes. Seriously... it's quick.

Never do this without reading and applying the bold text below

I am just getting around to reading replies now and I just wanted to say thanks.

Kay1234, why should I go to wordpress when I can just ask my fellow warriors here?

Maybe someone else in the forum was looking for the same info. Now it's a permanent thread that will get indexed in Google so other people with the same issue may come across this thread.
