Hi - you'll have to excuse me if this has been asked - I did a search and came up empty.

I am in the process of finding a niche to create a simple adsense site around.

I've found a keyword that is searched 9900/mo and when searched in google comes up with 37000 pages.

I thought that was pretty good (but would love to hear opinions on this)

Anyways - to my actual question..

mykeyword.com and .net are taken - no sites built, the domains are for sale but for about $1000 each.

.ca is available.

Do you think it's better to take the .ca OR take a slightly different .com E.g. www dot aboutmykeyword dot com

Many thanks in advance for any help

Christine

    Hi Christine

It really depends where you think your market is. If you see your niche as appealing specifically to Canadians then the .ca domain is a good choice. Otherwise choose a variation of the name with a .com extension.

If these are AdSense sites then why not get both? Domain names are pretty inexpensive.

Best of luck with your site(s)!

getting both is a good idea - hadn't even occurred to me (newbie alert..) lol..

Here's another newbie question - as far as SEO - as long as the domain name has the keyword in it - even if there are other words - will it at all detract from SEO?

That's why I had thought .ca since my exact keyword domain is available.

    Thanks

Personally I really like .ca. People think I live in California

I don't think it has to be a hurdle in climbing up the rankings. stock.xchng - the leading free stock photography site has done pretty well in its field. It could be just a prejudice of mine but I'm taking a .ca right now and making a run with it. I don't always know what to believe here so thought I'd try one out for myself.

Edit: probably just a prejudice of mine. I'd expect Bill's reply would make more business sense.
