I have a site that i installed wordpress on and it has literally only been a month since it was done. I have no content on there other than a title and its 23 in google results. Im just about to add content and get this on 1st page easily. Do you thinks this is thanks to wordpress?

Not necessarily. Depends on the keyword you put in your domain, and what keyword you are searching to find your site, and how much competition there is for it.

Here's an example for you - this site is done with Joomla! with no optimization, and I only put a fluff page up.

Results 1 - 10 of about 7,130,000 for perpetual mastermind.

I am number 1 on google, with no backlinks that I know of, and I have lots of members - LOL - all spam bots I'm sure.

EDIT: ROFLMBO I just read "Userlist Perpetual Mastermind has 520 registered users" LOL, anyone want to buy a members site?

    This is nothing new!

And YES, it can be something to do with wordpress, but other factors too. Depending on the niche, you can get no.1 spot within a week/days without any content etc.

If you have been through google sniper, George actually shows a site ranking on page 1 with no content, and no updates whatsoever, but stuck in that position!

    Pretty common at the moment.

it is keyword.co.uk so i guess keyword rich domains get high priority off the big g. It gets 14800 global searches per month so should be quite lucrative if i get a decent place on the first page. Do you know what ctr rates are for the first 5 places?

Joomla and Wordpress can both do well. Joomla! will be a lot more work, but can rank just as effectively.

Without knowing what domain was selected and the competition I have no idea what shoved him up in the serp's

      Hi Axel jr,

Are you sure that's a wise assumption?

      Let's take Jill's example - perpetual mastermind.

You can tell pretty much just by looking at it that it's a nonsensical term that is unlikely to be a profitable keyword. But let's check further.

I see lots of people (particularly on salespages when they are trying to sell something based on ranking) quoting this kind of thing -

Results 1 - 10 of about 7,130,000 for perpetual mastermind.
What is that actually telling us?

I'm not sure because I have no idea where that figure came from. But if I search Google for perpetual mastermind without quotes, it tells me that there are 920,000 pages that have both of those words somewhere on the page. And if I view a sample of the results by looking at the bolded text, I can see that none of them have the two words together.

If I search Google for that phrase in quotes, it tells me that there are 20 pages on the whole of the internet that have these two words together on the page - as they are or reversed.

By looking at the results I can see that some of them are domaintools sites that simply list this domain on there.

There are also no adwords ads for this term at all.

If I use Google's external keyword tool to do a broad search it confirms that there is 'not enough data' - IE - there are such a small amount of searches for this term that it doesn't return any data.

If you consider that there are only 20 pages with that phrase (straight or reversed) and that the domain in question is the exact phrase with a .com tld, then it's pretty clear why this domain is no.1 in the SERPS and it's also logical to assume that it has NOTHING to do with the type of CMS used on the domain.

I hope that you don't think I'm knocking you Jill, but it seems crazy to let Axel think that this is down to Joomla. It's because the keyword is so meaningless that no-one (less than 21) has built any pages with this phrase on it, let alone optimised them for it.

If you bought dddddddddhhh----hhhssssssskkkk.com and put any CMS you liked on it, it would probably still rank at no.1 for that term, as that term will most likely not appear on any other pages.

      Hope this helps.

PS Axel, you sell SEO services?

LOL, thats what I was trying to convey. No clue what KW is being searched and what the domain is.

No, I'm not offended in any way - I was trying to show it was not all about it just being a wordpress site.

Wordpress is going to be just as effective as a CMS and will be ultimately easier to use - but don't think you are where you are because of the CMS alone.

My site is a bit of a joke. If you just google "mastermind" I am no where to be found.

If you are ranking for something already, it has to do with the keywords selected in the domain.

I have seen this before. I was researching a keyword sometime ago and the number 2 position was held by wordpress blog with no content.

I bought a domain, put up content and did backlinks and after a week i was number 1 and am still there.

Can you share the keyword? Or if not, tell us how many searches it gets/what it's adwords cost is?
