whats the story on directory dubmissions

I have been doing pretty good with seo and external link building.

But I have never really used directory submissions, is this a valid way to rank for a keyword.

could you really just add 10k directory submissions and out rank anything,

some people I have talked to seem to think you can, but before I go out and try this I was wondering what some of you thought

Directory subs still work for me. However, I don't submit to "thousands". I basically hit the 1st-2nd Tier, White list directories such as JoeAnt; then about 500-1000 2nd-3rd Tier ones (including the ones that allow deep links).

If you plan on doing directory subs, then outsource it as it's not going to be the best use of your time. Also, do NOT submit the same headline and body copy to all of them.

Again, directory submissions work for me -- but I'm sure it's more because of my methodology.

As far as the answer to your question, "could you really just add 10k directory submissions and out rank anything" --- no. Today's SE algorithms take more than just the number of links to your site into account. There may be some exceptions to low competition keywords; but 10k directory subs would be overkill.

    Hope this helps.

Mass submission to worthless directories will not help.

Here is a list of directories in order of inbound link quality:

I personally have used those mass submission services, and it great to get hundred of emails confirming the submissions, but I NEVER had a really good luck. The best luck I've had was with Icansoft DirectoryBot. I was impressed with it.

I run a bunch of directories, and a little insight is: Submit your websites to the more established websites that have been around a while. Longevity impacts the strength of the back links much more with sites that have been around for years versus a fly by directory.

I agree 100%. There are not many that have been around for long time. If they have been, and still have pagerank, that is a good sign.

From what I remember a long time ago Google pretty much decided not to use directories anymore as part of their ranking system. However I could be wrong on this now. Along with that many directories get slammed with links every day and most will never approve your link or take weeks or months to get around approving yours.
