I can't believe someone thought this would be a good idea.

The only thing that would be more idiotic would be including the card #, expiration date and 3 # code on the back ... LOL.

Really? This surprises you guys? Um. We're talking about people who watch American Idol and reality TV with fanatical devotion. Look at the huge uproar over the Tiger Woods scandal. This is the most voyeuristic time in history, by far. I'm only surprised that it took someone this long to think it up.

This is a ridiculous idea. You can tell so much about a person through their spending habits... This is like trying to take the idea of twitter and combining that with your bank statements.

Although this would be quite useful for stalkers. So if you built a list of stalkers you might be able to profit big with their affiliate program. lol

I bet you could turn up a lot of profitable niche ideas there though. I just wouldn't want to part with my purchase data in order to do it.

That is worse than my idea for a site where you can get a bikini model photoshopped into a pic with your car.

possible to surf around this site and see
what people are buying, and when you find
something that's selling multiple times,
become an affiliate for that product if
possible, and start selling it yourself?

That's the main thing the old masters tell us
in marketing 101 - sell whatever they're
buying.

What better way to see what people are buying
than on a site where they blatantly tell you
flat out what they just bought?

anyway, if someone came in here and say "I have this cool idea, i'll make a website where you can post a 1 liner letting people know what you're currently doing, be it watching TV, taking a dump, etc... maybe some random stranger on the other side of the world would like sign up just to see what im doing?"

a) to show off

b) to communicate/express themselves

c) because they can(!)

d) to help others know what's hot

...and how can this possibly be leveraged into profit via user generated content, for example -

e) think of an incentive to encourage (top shopper award)

f) let others comment on other peoples' purchases

g) let them form groups and share info

h) once the site is big, automatically integrate posts with bigger sites (twitter, facebook)

i) crunch the data and make applications from it/sell it

I maintain - currently it's an oval wheel. But they're onto something. And personally, I'd rather be testing those type of sites than many of the worn out ideas peddled here (note 'many', not 'all')

The main thing to avoid is a resource-heavy money pit that can never be monetised/flipped.

The dumbness of the users and their keenness to waste time writing crap CAN directly relate to the profitability. In other words, the dumber the concept, the better the potential. That theory is on display all over the internet and TV.

All those truly original and great bands who took years honing their skills, trying to create a new sound that wasn't similar to others, writing beautiful lyrics.........

...stand absolutely no chance of real commercial success because some chav who won X factor singing karaoke with a silly hairdo, or some bimbo with 'made for TV girl next door looks that Dad appreciates' is dominating the 'pop' charts, and dominating the tabloid headlines...and twitter...and facebook...and making millions for marketers running phone-vote scams for lemmings who 'care'.

The world is topsy-turvy and often discards your brilliance without a second's admiration. But by God, if I can't succeed with my brilliance, I'll damn well do it with determination and mindless junk, like the rest of 'em.

It's a crazy idea and one can only wonder what sort of people would use it. Socializing on web 2.0 sites is one thing but I think things can sometimes go too far.

This might actually be interesting to watch someone who has some money to blow. I might even pay to watch someone in hollywood burn through a couple 100k in a month, just to see how it gets spent.

i think it would be way too easy to experience fraud if said co has credit card info you know some hacker will be working day and night to crack into it.

Do people like showing off their purchases? Some do but I doubt it's something that would pick up. But as marketers we'd probably find it useful for spotting buying trends. Still though, it's quite silly.

Just another way to catapult you into the limelight I guess the 400+ Social media networks are not enough for one person to deal with daily.

This would be a great site for all those dumb celebrities at least they cant flog their own products with this method. I guess those that are really cash strapped can build a little affiliate site to Chanel and take commissions from publicly announcing their huge spends.

Why does everything in life have to be a competition who cares how much money you spent.

Everything seems to have a stigma attached to it where it becomes a I'm better than you motto.

I'm sure when the tax man looks into people's affairs it will be hard to pull a fast one over his eyes - why he has a list of your boasted purchases advertised to the world.

This reminds me of facebook beacon. I think FB told your friends about some of your retail purchases, and it got awkward when people were buying presents or embaressing items.

It should be interesting to see where this one goes. I can't believe anyone would actually broadcast this info - unless possibly to shock others - but then again, who would have ever thought that reality TV would be so popular? You're right Zeus66 - this is the most voyeuristic time in our history. People need to get a life of their own instead of watching everyone else's...

I will probably be using it to show purchases I'm making in wholesale goods to show how to build a 'big' income using my eBook, the source in my eBook, and my methods and tactics. I could just post on MySpace or a Blog or something (or I could do it all) saying

"I spent $300 on Zhu Zhu Pets, my Return was $750, I'm giving myself 15% ($112.50)"

"I spent $637.50 on "this cellphone", my return was $1200. I'm giving myself 15% ($180.00)"

Then building up until I'm earning $4k a week. (the percentage I'm giving myself will obviously change)

However, this website might make my transactions to appear to be more legitimate, as anyone could really just Say or make a Screenshot in MsPaint showing how much money they say they are spending.
