I'm going to Scream at Paypal - help with a refund

I need to issue a refund. I've never done it before. I know it should be easy - I've found the transaction I need to refund and clicked on refund. Then PayPal whinges at me and tells me that I need to have enough money in my account to cover the refund and won't let me go any further.

I do have enough money in the account. I think the problem is that my account is in UK £ and I need to refund in US$.

OK, I thought - contact Paypal. I clicked on contact us by email - chose the topic I wanted to ask about - and it just took me to a page where it tells me I can't cancel the transaction as I didn't initiate it! Grrrrrrr

So - i can't email PayPal because their contact us by email page, doesn't actually let you contact them by email. And I can't refund a perfectly legitimate refund request because it's a different currency.

Anyone any clues about what I should do next? I'm stuck.

you can issue the refund by doing the following. log in
    go to send money
    enter their email address
    select amount
    click send
    confirm payment

    maybe that will help

    Hi

underneath the actual email options at the bottom is the email us link just click on that and you are through to their email system. Though in most cases it will take them three days to get back to you so i would phone them instead.

Im having probs with my paypal account at the moment so i can sympathise.

    kind regards

You need to have enough in the same currency that you want to refund in.
On your main 'overview' account page where it gives your paypal balance you should see a link to the far right of that amount saying 'currency convertor'. Click that link and then change some of your pounds into us $ - every £10 should give you approx. $15.70 (it doesn't have to be exact - you can always change any remaining $ back into £ once you have given your refund). Once you have enough in your us $ balance you should be able to refund without any problems.
