Whats your biggest problem with Twitter?

I have been using Twitter for a while now and am beginning to know a bit about it.

Am just wondering why some of you are not using Twitter and what problems if any you have for it?

Debating putting together some kind of twitter related product and would be interested to know if there is anything that you would like to know?

Anyone who gives me compelling food for thought can have a review copy of my report if I decide there is enough demand for another Twitter report and decide to write it! Otherwise you just get my heartfelt thanks.

My biggest problem is distinguishing the Spam Bots from the real people. I have even debated stopping using it. I have over 2000 followers & I can't keep track of the ones that I actually want to read.

    How can there be noise?

Twitter is the ultimate opt-in platform.

Yes people can @reply spam at you.
    But there's 1 click block/report.

    You get what you follow.

You can choose exactly who you want to follow--and so can everyone else."- Evan Williams CEO, Twitter

Not much bothers me about twitter, I just keep chattering to people over and over again, I actually don't think I have ever posted a link in my over 1000 posts I've made, but I will tell you I have made quite a few friends along the way and pretty much couldn't go a day without it.

I know soon I will be posting links, but for now I just want to get to know my followers and get them to know me.

If I wanted to give some information about twitter, I would say make sure you at least speak on a personal level with your followers. Post links off and on, don't do it every post, in fact I say use the 60/40 rule (I just made that up) 60% personal posts and 40% links. I think twitter would be a better place with the 60/40 rule.

For me, biggest problem is that Twitter is addictive. once you start using it, it's hard to focus on other things!

I am getting really annoyed with the amount of spam links on my profile. Maybe I need more followers so that it would not look that obvious.

This is why IM has such a a bad name. Spammers constantly ruining it all for decent people.

As a newbie user of twitter it doesn't make me feel like using the service if I have to see the same face on my tweets page a hundred times.

spammers should be named and shamed I say

Not to be wise, but why not just unfollow if it is mainly one or two people?
Also, following very few, even legitimate, active users can seem like a lot.

My problem is not having enough followers! At the time of writing I have 10,018 followers, but I would like to have at least a million of them, so more people will be reading my tweets

Maybe I am missing something but the videos mentioned in this thread (and all the similar ones that I have seen till now) teach you to increase the number of your followers by following thousands of people - using autofollow and/or starting to follow hundreds and hundreds... hoping they also use auto-follow.

I perfectly understand the desire to have one million followers so more people would read my tweets. However, with the methods taught that would mean that I have to follow roughly the same number of users, if we use the presented "techniques".

How the heck can you even try to keep an eye on what 1 million people are tweeting? Or 100,000? Or 10,000 for that matter?
Let's be honest: you don't care what they tweet, you never even look at those tweets. Then why are we expecting that they would read carefully our tweets?

Can any enthusiastic Twitter user explain this to me?
    Thank you!

Valid question! I think that what people are hoping for with large numbers of followers is that people will interact with them. So while they may not read everything that is being said by everyone they will be able to and should correspond with those who correspond with them.

It is worth noting that Twitter is just a tool and it can be an addictive one at that. Don't fall into the trap of just thinking you can use it for selling stuff, its more for developing relationships, although it can be used to sell as well. One of my clients typically does £500 plus of sales everytime it posts a link with only around 2000 followers and periodically the clients followers post a link instead, which is an added bonus and a great thing to retweet!

The hardest thing is reading the tweets, you follow a bunch of people and it looks like a ticker tape machine.

    @Istvan You nailed it.

All of these 'products' teaching people how to "get thousands of followers",
are based on follower churn: Following thousands then auto unfollowing (against TOS).

    The problems are many.
    1) As you've pointed out, no one can absorb the tweets you'll see.
    2) The dm spam will render any account useless.
    3) Twitter's analytics team is so far advanced, it's remarkable.
They hired world-class data mining experts to help Trust & Safety delete
    thousands of accounts - daily.

The best way to weed out the tweets is to use the groups function and the list function so you can just follow specific people.

It's worth noting that you can get rid of a lot of the DM spam by opting out of Auto Dms.

Still I wish Twitter was better at deleting the automated accounts!

Twitter is only useful if you engage with your followers. Just posting links is only useful as Google will see them, but not especially useful to followers.

    Hi guys

it will be a year on the 23rd december since i joined twitter and when i look at the difference between now and then it has to be the spam. When i first joined it didnt feel like i got overloaded with spam that much.

Unfortunately since then there has been way to many people selling ebooks about how to spam twitter rather than how to build a business on twitter and thats why i brought out my own ebooks on the subject. It was like a way of sounding off at the same time as helping people make money from twitter.

    kind regards
