There is another reason for it. If you are in a certain niche, and can provide real help to people's questions, you can start to build your reputation.
It is another source for much needed traffic from people actually interested in what you have to say, as opposed to traffic that may not generate any revenue at all.
Another important thing about Yahoo Answers, if you are helping people on a topic you are passionate about, you get that extra sense of satisfaction we need out of helping people.

I could never figure out yahoo answers. Really it just seems so complicated to me.

I dont know very much about backlinks. I just pay people to do this stuff for me. But, i did notice someone with one of my sites.

I reated a blog on myspace and put up a few articles all keyword rich and placed the keywords as anchor text linking back to my website. Well within a day my website went from the third page to the first page and as remained there.

I really dont understand how all of this works but I know that it worked for that website and that was very fast.

So maybe you want to try that or pay on of the guys here to help you with bakclinks.

lexbox1 is correct. Once you reach level 2, all your links (even the ones you'd left prior to reaching level 2) go live. I forget how many points it takes to reach level 2, but I do remember that I was able to reach it within about a week. I spent a little time on it each day, and I answered all kinds of questions, not just ones in my niche.

Here's a tip that might help you get there a little faster: if the question asker doesn't choose a best answer after 4 days, you can go back and vote for your own answer as the best one (you get 1 point just for voting). And then usually, I also end up being awarded another 10 points for having the best answer because of voting for myself.

I haven't figured out why this works sometimes and not others. I could probably find that info on the YA site if I really tried, but my guess it has something to do with who else has voted, etc. I also try to make sure that I actually DO leave a good answer, so that my answers get chosen as the best as often as possible. Especially if it's in my niche, because YA often appears pretty high in search results.

yahoo answers is quick to ban users posting links. I use it strictly for research in my niche marketing. Looking to see what questions people are asking, and what solutions they are looking for. A key step in researching a potential niche.

It's biggest forte is simply finding the questions that people need answers to, it's actually an incredibly powerful tool as far as finding out what the no 1 burning question is that people have in your niche.

Well depending on your niche, it is certainly an easy way to generate traffic. I'm actually had people that have read about some of my suggestions on YA(wineries specifically to visit) and have sent me an email to thank me for taking the time on YA to provide quality answers.

BTW, I have never had any problems with my account being banned. I typically only link on about half my posts and try to only answer 4-5 questions per day on average.

I think if you try to answer 40 questions in a day and include links in all of them, they peg you as an IM and kill your account.

In my experience with YA, less is more and they do give you quality links.

Yahoo Answers can drive decent traffic, regardless of the fact the links are nofollow.

I regulary use Yahoo answers to help generate traffic to all my sites. Well, the odd one doesn't seem to have any suitable questions but generally.
If you don't want to get banned then keep your answers on subject and like blog comments make them relevant and useful. Yahoo actually ask you to leave a link so it's not that that's getting people banned.
Like everything in the internet world. Do it right and it will work for you. Abuse it and you will be penalised.
PS I get traffic from links posted months ago

Yahoo Answers is pretty cool, or at least I think so.

People really like the discussion or quick forum format of YA. Your response to a question may stay up on Yahoo Answers for years, and be quickly made available through search engines who have crawled over it. Many people type in Question format when searching something through Google, so if someone was wondering why their dog eats its own poop they may type "Why does my dog eat his poop?" well, if you have answered a Yahoo Answers question with the same or very similar title, such as "Why does my dog eat its poop?" then your response can gain a lot of traffic.

Now, if you are level 2, and you answer with a well written but PERSONAL response without trying to sound like an over literate robot or something and instead try to sound like a normal person, you will not get banned which is the result of other users reporting you which is often because people sound more like salesmen trying to pitch something as opposed to seeming like a normal person that just mentions where you bought a guide on "getting your dog to stop eating poop." You are supposed to post links as your 'source' but once you are level 2, those links can become backlinks, and then its best to either use them to link to YouTube videos (people like videos) or Articles with a pitch, and not directly to Clickbank products or something.
