2 Step Order Process -- Anyone Do it?

I want to do a two step order process where a prospect goes to a landing/sales page and when they hit an order button, they go to a page that asks for their name and email (which is sent to aweber) and THEN they go to an order page that is pre-populated with that info.

This way, I can capture bail-out people's info, and try to market to them.

One thing I am struggling with --- if I do this, do I need to have aweber with double opt-in turned off?

I realize I could have it ON, but I feel many people will not double opt in...

Any ideas?

My shopping cart does add orders to a buyers list.

That is not my issue here.

I simply want to create a prospect list of people who click order but have bailed out.

About 90% of people that visit the order page abandon it.

      They are hot prospects.

They might be hot prospects. After all, they went as far as clicking the order button before bailing, but they did, in fact, bail.

PS- Would you please change that avatar? Every time I see it, I get this strange urge to show you my driver's license...

If you do capture these people, I'd start the process by trying to find out why they bailed rather than harassing them with sales messages. It would be like a car dealer following me out of the lot with a megaphone hollering at me to come back and buy.

Tricking them onto a mailing list is not the way to warm them up again. If you start hammering them with pitches when, in their minds, they already left you behind, they'll start lodging spam complaints regardless of the legal definition.

I only want to implement this technique because the best marketers in the world do this (Deiss, Belcher, Brock Felt and many more...).. They at least TEST it, and it usually (almost always) doesn't decrease intiional conversions and rapidly builds a list of hot prospects.

I dont care if I am a salesman with a loudspeaker. Some of the best marketing is invasive (while still respecting to the customer).

(And my avatar is from the movie There Will Be Blood. Its about an evil capitalist oil man.)

You asked for feedback, I gave it. If it holds no value for you, so be it, I'll return every penny you paid for it.

The avatar just reminded me of a state trooper I "met" awhile back...
