Urgent!!! Need Suggestion For A Free Video Sharing Site That Doesnt Show Videos Publicly

Hi,

I am in need of uploading some videos to my blog.

I have uploaded the videos to vimeo and then put them as private which is fine but it takes hours for the videos to get approved before they go live unless you upgrade the account to a paid member which gets uploaded alot faster and made live quicker so that is vimeo out.

What I want to do basically is upload a video then post it on my blog so that only those that have permission to view it can do so.

Hope someone can help me out with this.

Aaron.

    Hey Aaron,

Have you not tried the private feature on Youtube? I believe up to 25 people can view the video.

With YouTube, you can mark them private and they upload right away.

I've not actually tried the private feature. But I assume you would be able to embed the video on to your blog/ membership site so people can view it from there.

IIRC Viddler does what you want.

I upload my videos to vimeo either. And it takes about half an hour for it to be posted. That's weird

    aaronlamont,

I think I can help you amigo.

First of all, Youtube is great, but I don't think it's what you need in this case. When you mark a video as private, up to 25 people can watch it and they have to be your "friends" on Youtube. So thats not an ideal solution for you.

Viddler is the way forward. Briefly, here is how it works:

    1. Upload your video to viddler, it is as quick as Youtube and goes up straight away.

    2. Put it on the highest privacy setting (I think this means only YOU can view it when logged in - and thats what we want).

    3. Go and watch your vid and go to edit the privacy options. You should see an option to "enable secret url". This is a url you can use to let people see your video. Once you have enabled this url, you want to copy the last numbers at the end of the url which I believe come after a question mark "?" (I am explaining this from memory, so can't guarantee this 100%).

    4. Next thing is to open up notepad and paste the numbers you just got.

    5. Go to your video, get the embed code and paste that into your notepad.

    6. Find the urls for your video in the embed code. Then, take the numbers you copied from the secret url, at the end of the domanin names/url's in your embed code write the following:

    /0/thenumbersfromsecret url/

    7. Now, copy this newly edited embed code and paste it onto your blog's html template (if you are using wordpress).

    8. The result should be (if done successfully) that no one will be able to see, search for or share your video on viddler or anywhere else. Your videos should only be viewable on the web page you embedded them on.

If what I say doesn't work, then it's because I have missed a detail out (sorry again, doing this in a rush from memory).

To get help or exact directions/clarification, search the viddler.com website for these instructions. They are all there, but they can take a while to find, but trust me, the instructions are on viddler.com.

  • Use a real CMS with role-based access control. Upload to your site and display from your site based on user role. Great way to sell video content, too, though people could still rip it once they bought access.
