Looking for a Very Basic HTML Writing Tool

INTERNET MARKETING

Do any of you know of some tool that allows simple HTML tagging? Much like the editor boxes in forums and such, where you can highlight a bit of text, click on "bold" or whatever and it will wrap the HTML tags around the text?

I'd like something simpler than the full-fledged HTML-Editors that are available for free. Like Notepad plus the most basic HTML tags.

Does this type of thing exist?

I really like Arachnophilia version 4. It's unsupported but it is so simple you don't need support. Google Arachnophilia and be sure you get v.4

Is this for on-site of of site editing?

  Have you thought about a CMS like Wordpress? That has the simple functionality you're looking for.
  
  A desktop editor is Crimson Editor. It supports syntax highlighting and has some light functionality, but I don't think it does exactly what you want it to do. You may be able to write some macros for it, though.

Thanks for the tips. I'll give arachnothingy a try right away!

The purpose is this: Some article directories and also Squidoo, for example, allow html, but you have to write it manually. I want to be able to recommend a simple tool for newbies where they can write the html in an editor and then copy-paste it into Squidoo, for example.

If you do a search for "free html editor" you will get a bunch of them that will do a real simple job with no bells and whistles. Probably just the thing for doing stuff like in Squidoo.

When I need to do some quick html I use this online editor:
Online-HTML-Editor.org - The free online WYSIWYG Editor!
