Mindset Shift Is Needed For Newbie IM

If you're new to internet marketing the first rule to follow is DON'T buy into all the hype the Gurus pitch to you. Most if not all of it is just that, hype.

The Gurus tell you what you want to hear. They say stuff like "make money now"..."Copy and Paste your way to profits"..."done for you plug ins"..."Make 5 figures your first month with only minutes of work"..."This is the easiest way to make money" and all other kinds of garbage.

I've been in the IM game about a year now (not full time yet). I've bought some nice products and I've bought some crappy products. None of them really give you a good "mind set" explanation. Well here's my 2 cents.

I come from a blue collar back ground. I used to dig ditches, build houses, trim houses and bury gas tanks for a living. I come from a family where to "earn" more money you had to work "harder" and longer. I currently own a home inspection company and that's how I support my family.

The mind set issue is this. I've had the hardest time convincing myself that sitting at my computer for hours at a time researching, writing, reading, building mini sites was work. It doesn't feel like the work I'm used to. I don't sweat. I'm not overly tired when I finish. My musles aren't soar. Hmmm...is this REALLY work?

You see, the way the Gurus teach you is all you'll have to do is type a few words on the screen and you'll be rich. Bulls**t. That sales copy is written because that's what people WANT and it converts like crazy. They'll teach you to send out an email and get rich.

Again, Bulls**t. That only works if you have a list (over 1,000 people).

This is in no way a thread intended to bash the Gurus. I've learned a lot from the products I've bought. But none of them has made me rich. As a newbie, when you purchase a product DO NOT EXPECT to make a six figure income right out the gate.

I'm all about setting high goals, but let's be real. You will not buy some new wiz bang affiliate marketing course and all of the sudden BAM! Now you're rich.

You can take this with a grain of salt. You can see by how many posts I've had and by my crappy blog (link at bottom) that I haven't been around too long. Just wanted to share some info with people just now starting out.

Keep this in mind. When you buy a new product, if you learn just ONE new thing from it then you got your money's worth out of it. Most CB prouducts will cost you around 40-80 bucks. Not too bad.

Keep your mind focused on ONE way to make money online. I did a lot of bouncing around for a while. Not good. I went from Product creation, to PPC, to blogs, CPA, and now article marketing. I made little to no money until recently.

I've stuck to article marketing and I'm averaging a wopping $40 a week. However, that's with only like 20 articles oline. I've found a system that's helped me write faster and better.

Basically I've stuck with ONE thing and now I'm making money from it. Once I get to $1000 a month article marketing I'll invest in other ventures. But not until then.

I will give a shout out to Brian Johnson and Jonny Andrews. For newbies, do a google search on them. Their products are good and worth buying. I also just bought an article marketing product from a Warrior member. It's way good and it only cost $9. I was very pleased with it. http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...ghts-more.html

Anyway, those are a few things I've learned this past year. I'm not rich, but I'll be there soon.

Thanks for your help Warrior members. I'm making money online because of advice I read on this board. Thanks,

Laters Days,

Shane

P.S. Reading the warrior forum 1 hour a day is a must for newbies. Wake up early if you have to or stay up late. But just do it.

    Shane,

I was sitting here mumbling things like "Right on!" and "You tell 'em!" as I read your post... then I got to the last bit where you mention some folks and plugged one of my own products. I'm so happy that you found it helpful! You made my day.

I'm totally with you in your sentiments about the hype. All of us were newbies at some point, and probably all of us bought at least 2-3 products from the "gurus" that left us disappointed. It sucks that it's so rare to find a really compelling sales page coupled with a product that actually does not end up disappointing.

But I also have to say that a lot of the fault lies with the buyer. I'm guilty too! I often buy things, think to myself what a great idea that is, and then do absolutely nothing about it. Human nature, I suppose. The old saying about leading a horse to water but not being able to make him drink comes to mind. Our job is to lead horses to the old waterin' hole... unless we promise to jump up on their necks and force them to take some gulps. In that case, it ain't whining.

I'm guilty of buying into the hype. The problem wasn't the product all the time, usually it was me. Just wanted newbies to be aware of that. The copy on the sales pages really do suck you in sometimes and your hand just has this twitch and reaches for your wallet before you know what hit you.

I followed Kern's advice on that one. If you want to make more money each month, stop buying everyone else's stuff! Just pick one and follow the program exactly.

I've done that, and I'm happier and wealthier for it too.

Thanks for all the help and Merry Christmas.

For most IM newbies, focus is the main thing.
I have been guilty of buying the latest new thing that promises but never delivers.

Its never easy. No matter what some folks tell you , you really need to put a bit of work in, then focus, take action and focus again.

Shane, I'm an Ironworker myself, your right, this isn't work.

    Good post, thanks.

You have to learn to separate work/learning from falling into the actual sales pitch...very tricky especially as a noob, I wasted SO much time that way.

The most critical thing is to find one thing and take action on it until it succeeds. Most people will buy product after product and never take action. Mindset is critical to your online success.

Therer are a lot of great programs shared here and elsewhere, but don't keep buying. Start doing and you will succeed. Never had success with article marketing myself. I go t a lot of articles read, and a lot of click throughs, but very few sales from it.

I get a lot better results from having my own site, and driving traffic there first. then send them to a product. that has been my experience, although some would disagree.

The fact is there are many different ways that work. Find one you can be comfortable with, and stick with it until you make it.
