I am creating backlinks for a wordpress site. The site shows in google as http://sitename.com and i have been creating backlinks for http://www.sitename.com will this matter?

That is not the actual site by the way.

You will want to check go to both your domain as www and as non-www versions. Do they resolve to the same place (either with the www or without) if not this does not help the SEO of your site because of Google's duplicate content penalty. (So basically if your www and non-www version of your site result is two sites...this might be bad news in the eyes of Google.)

The fix is pretty easy - redirect your non-www address to your www address. This can be done easily through the wordpress dashboard. Select "General" under the Settings tab. In the "WordPress address (URL)" field make sure you have the www version of your website listed then hit save. This will make sure that you site will always show up as the www version and will help make sure all your backlinks are now pointing to the right domain.

    Hope this helps.

i have checked and wordpress and blog address are both http://sitename.com and when i type www.sitename.ocm in the address bar it goes to the site without www. Google has not indexed them as 2 seperate sites so i guess i best leave it as it is and go for backlinks without www.
