Is there a wp plugin that does this?

Hey Warriors,
I'm wondering if there is a simple way to do the following. I have a wordpress blog, and I want users to opt in and have an account on the site. From there, users can:
-have a unique screenname
-comment on posts
-upload avatars
-put additional information in their profile like name, but initially opt in with just an email
-be integrated with my autoresponders

Also, I want all the blog content to be available and SEO'd, unlike a membership site that keeps the content on the inside. Basically I want the membership to manage the members, not the content.

A similar example would be like the blogs in the Gawker network. Try to comment on this post, for example, and it prompts you to opt in:

I am open to all ideas and brainstorms, no matter how stupid.

"opt in" or register? - you can set WP to ask everyone who wants to comment to register first. Settings > Discussion: Other comments settings
Note. In this case you should also set in Settings > General: Membership - Anybody can register [checked]

That's given, when they register, they have a username; first/last (optional) and a "nickname"... and can even choose which one to be displayed when they post/comment

That's like that out of the box.

    1. WP by default supports gravatars (gravatar.com) = globally recognized avatars
    2. For those technically challenged, you can use a plugin for uploading local avatars:

I am little bit confused by this returning "opt in" issue: in WP users, members do NOT opt in, they register!
Basically, if you require registering, they need to give a valid email address and to pick a username. WP will send them a confirmation request or something like that.

Registered members can access their own profile and modify it - Why don't you try to log ut from admin and register as a newcomer to see the options?
If you want to add all kind of information to their own "page" - you can use the Author Templates. (MAke sure you take a look at the additional resources/plugins at the bottom of the page...)

For a possible solution see the search result for "autoresponder"

    Nothing is hiding your content.
For a more detailed "user management" you can take a look at the Role Manager plugin:

I've considered the WP user level, but that leaves a few problems:
-can their emails be integrated into an autoresponder automatically?
-in the future I will be interested in their phone number and other demographic info, the WP settings allow for stuff like IM screennames
-when somebody logs in I want them to see my branded site, with links going to my branded site--not a wordpress dashboard

The local avatar plugin is exactly what I'm looking for on that front. Thanks.

This would do the job if it could seamlessly integrate from registration to importing into the AR software

Does anybody know how to do that?

Or knows if this does it?

OK, you never mentioned these newer requirements in your initial post.

I never used any of the autoresponder plugins... Down on the page one says it automatically adds your registered users to Aweber.
What kind of AR do you use?

n+1 "login redirect" plugins, just search:
