The one thing that holds you back.

When you first started out on your online business what was the main thing that held you back?
I reckon most people will mention getting traffic, but for me it was simply confidence. At first I didn't really believe that it was possible to really make regular cash. So what was or is your barrier?

      Hi Andy,

      Great question.

My first barrier was my disability i had a very hard time because i expected things to be like this ..... i create a site..... i buy traffic to send to said site.... i get sales......WRONG

Um ok this is not working what can i do .so i began to run all over the net downloading and reading whatever i could but very little retained with me so i just became frustrated . thankfully my wife is very supportive and encouraged me i could do it .... so i decided to create my own product that would actually help people enter wd's success kit. enter some sales...enter flop

again frustration set in even made me cry. thought number 2 enter ask for help..... i asked a very well known marketer for help sent an email explained the whole thing was crying as i wrote it .....2 days later response..."this email address is not monitored" rather then tell me anything he responded with that of course me being a tech i knew right away it was crap so i got depressed..... ok try a different one enter... wd's ultimate business package.... enter big flop......
i started in feb this year. now i have since developed a technology-outsourced
i have created a membership site-sales copy is not converting but it will once i figure it out

creating a different membersite -should be very profitable and useful for others.
my barier exists every day .myself. all i can do is push through work my but off and success will happen but my biggest lesson was it doesn't just happen.

        Andy

My first barrier was distraction. Too many new products being pushed my way. Everytime I opened my email there was a new temptation. And don't get me started on the warrior forum LOL. This place is dynamite when it comes to learning but everytime I read about something new I wanted to try it and before I knew it I had too many projects going at once.

I finally got smart and made a business plan that helped me to focus on only the new products that fit into my plan. My plan was like blinders on a horse allowing me to concentrate on just what lay ahead (my plan) instead of looking at everything that came into view.

I had a fear of lots of hard work and no return. I had a lack of confidence because I wasn't seeing the fruits of my labor.
Try to figure out what it is that is eating at you. In my case, if I had a side job, then I could at least have some confidence that I was making money while trying something new. Instead I made things harder on myself, but luckily I am doing okay with IM today.

    Fear of failure was mine.

There's only one way to ovecome it too.. and once you take action the fear vanishes too.

Hats off to you WD products, because you kept going when things stacked up against you. I have only admiration for you.

Joyfulwraps, yours is that old friend of ours, information overload. I think we all suffer that one at some time or other.
Fear of the unknow and lack of confidence walk hand in hand. I know them both very well.
MJ Sterling, I agree with you completely. You have to face your fears head on, both offline and online.

    Unicorns.

My fear of unicorns have always held me back in life.

Actually it was the fear of making a decision. I felt that if I spent tons of time and energy on one thing and it didn't work...I would have wasted all that time and energy. Once I got over it and just accepted that regardless of what I did I would use it as a learning experience...things took off.

Time! Never enough of it to put forth the full concentrated and focused-effort I desperately need to get going. With all my J.O.B. and family responsibilities, only able to sneek in 5 minutes here or 10 minutes there, if I'm lucky, and that leaves me very frustrated.

I am still new, but I guess my answer is information overload.

Sometimes I have a tendency to want to be an expert before I even begin. I need to let myself fail more.

You have to remember that you are an expert in the eyes of anyone who joins this journey after you. I answer lots of peoples questions on here, but still have to ask loads myself.

I was held back by fear of failure, and by a lack of direction.

I was afraid of spending endless hours working and then not making any money, but I finally realized that if I didn't do anything I definitely wouldn't make anything! At least if I tried, I might make some.

I also finally managed to figure out the direction I wanted to go in. That was tough, but once I figured out what it was I really enjoyed doing, the rest was cake.

For me it was content. I'm not english so I was sure I wouldn't be able to write an interesting article that wouldn't look like a five year old had written it. My second problem was money, didn't have any so I couldn't outsource it. So after a few months going back and forth, I jumped in and did my best and now I'm making enough to be able to outsource the article writing.

      This is my barriers

First is I'm not sure if I doing everything right when it comes to making the website. I don't know excatlly what to do to get people to buy so basicly I just put something together and hope for the best.

second. I got very little money so buying traffic is hard I can't try out as much in PPC

third: Taking action. I'm having trouble getting started mostly because I've done this for a year and I maybe made $400. I'm jumped like crazy from products so I guess that is why.

The things that held me back was confidence and information overload. I'd try things out for a bit and then move on to the next hyped tactic.

I eventually got my act together, and just stuck to one project, and worked at it until I started to get the results I wanted. When I started to see conversions, that's when my confidence shot up. It may sound silly but it actually makes a difference when you see that first conversion or your first check come through the post. It makes it seem all the more real.

I've now finished my first report and have got my first WSO up which his a huge accomplishment for me, and something which is like a mini milestone. But then the next part comes with creating your own info product....will people like it? Well to be fair that was another thing that ALMOST held me back, I was close not to releasing it in fear that it would pretty much bomb (which it didn't thankfully ). But I suppose it's also about having courage and belief in yourself that you do have the ability to reach your goals. Once you hit that first milestone, it gets a little easier as you go along.

    That's my experience anyways.
