Niche Blogging - secondary keywords

Ok, I have decided on a few longtail keywords (2,3,4 words each) for a few niche blogs I want to set up.

From what I have been reading, I should select these based on a keyword phrase I can probably get on the first page (not one of the top 10-15 at google keyword tool) - so I have done that.

But for the seconday keywords that I will base my internal pages/articles on, should those be the top ones that are very competitive, or should I try again to find ones I can compete at?

any advice would be greatly appectiated.

thanks

You can take your keywords that you have and put them into a keyword suggestion tool like Google Adwords Keyword Tool and look at the other related keywords that they give you.

Take the top 10 - 20 related and start writing your posts with those other related keywords.

Another thing to do is use Google Analytics or a similar (like your domain logs) way to see what keywords people are using to find you.

If 5 people found you using words that you did not anticipate you can help others using those words by writing posts with those newly discovered keywords.

Now maybe those 5 will turn into 10. You will start seeing other people finding you with even more related words and then again, write about those new keywords.

The trickles of small groups of people using words that you had not considered now starts to become a stream.

Your site starts "evolving" into those searched terms and the organic traffic starts flowing more and more.

So what would a LOW ranking be? I just did a search and the top one listed which matched my keywords almost exactly is ranked at about 50,000

Is that a high traffic site? I have no idea, LOL

What I normally do will be checking on the log files to see what keywords are coming from the search engines and copying those keywords into Google Adwords Keyword Tool to generate more relating keywords to be used for articles.

This method will help me to generate more visitors with other relating keywords. Monitoting the log files are important factors so you know where and what are the keywords people searching for.

Low ranking refers to the alex ranking of 1,000 as compared with 100,000.

The lower the numbers means they are having high traffic.

    Hope this helps!
