Does anyone still use advertising in E-zines?

I'm thinking about including advertising in an e-zine campaign to help drive traffic to a landing page, but I have been getting mixed messages about its effectiveness. Anyone have experience using ads in e-zines?

Not very effective at all I find.

Stopped wasting my time doing it a long time ago.

The problem is like all email, it never gets opened, or if it does no one clicks on any links.

You need to check out the Charlie Pages Directory of Ezines, there are some very cost effective Ezines that you can advertise in and get some good ROI.

I have found that gaining JV partners in the same niche is a far better (not to mention free) way of gaining highly targeted traffic.

My sig will help you with that (and it's also free)

    Enjoy!

I saw some where, maybe an email or something that Page had updated the site here in the last couple of months. I think it is now called DOE 2.0, not sure what improvements have been made but I know that there has been a push to increase his membership and the advertising uses the upgrade and personal coaching as the USP.

I haven't tried it, myself. I do agree with Alexa-I'm sure there is a group of people who get good results. I would guess that a lot of things that aren't working for the masses will work for those that put in the time and effort to get it right.

When I first started online, every resource I had claimed that banner ads were a complete waste of time. Now everyone is creating a product on media buys.

If you do get good results from ezines, be sure to capture everything on camtasia and release a 2k DVD set next year

Wow, thanks for all the response

I guess I will give it a shot and see what kind of results I get... and if goes well I will release a Video tutorial next year lol

I'm reading "Multiple Streams of Internet Income" by Robert G Allen. In one of the chapters he talks about using E-zines to market a product, and he says pretty much the same thing Alexa is saying, that most people dont get good results and a few do. He claims the reason for this is that most people dont have a system to capture email addresses and add them to their list, and they dont follow up. He claims the key is in the following up, which I have found to be a big part of sales in general.

      Can anyone verify his observations?

Hi Eric...what Robert Allen says is still right on the money if not more so now than when he wrote it. I have found the best results I get when I advertise on other peoples ezines is when I offer a giveaway product instead of advertising my services. Just make sure the link you share on the advertisement links up to a squeeze page that requires your visitor to opt in to your list to receive the giveaway.

So in a nutshell when you advertise outside of your list of subscribers your main goal is to convert nonsubscribers into subscribers. Then from there you let your autoresponder do the rest of the work,

Robert Allen did an experiment a few years ago where he made tens of thousands of dollars in a 24 hour period. I believe he did this with JV's. He had it all coordinated where the partners mailed out at the same time. My point is although he could have done this with ezines, he had the coordinated focus of all of the JV partners for the launch.

So if you do try out ezines, you might try a similar tactic by contacting the ezine owners first with a free ebook, an article, and a squeeze before paying for a solo ad, and then have them send out your free offer via your article and see what results you get.

It has never and I mean NEVER made me any sales! Stick to PPC and possibly USFreeads.com, another good one, but only on the premium account!

      1) Email marketing (including ezine advertising) does NOT produce sales, but clicks. Your product/service + your landing page produce the sales

Example: great ad copy + great email marketing campaign + responsive readers + low quality product (is NOT you the one who decides the quality!) + poor landing page = BIG FAT ZERO. Who is at fault?

      2) If you want to succeed then don't sell anything in your ads (most of the advertisers fail because their first target is the sale). Your first target has to be the list building. Then the sales will come (the sale is the final target).

People who skip the steps shouldn't blame the tools (email marketing, ezines, etc.)
