What the HELL Can I do with this??????

I made this for kicks a few months ago. I get decent traffic from it and some really positive comments.

i think I'm going to produce more episodes, but I want to try and monetize it. (Duh. Why else would I be a member of this forum?)

Any ideas???

    Couple quick ideas:

    1. Video recipe site - monetized with adsense, amazon, whatever. Or, a membership site priced at no-brainer price. Offer some free recipes and some for members only.

    2. Do video reviews on Amazon - with video angled toward using recipes from a popular cookbook, or using a kitchen gadget, etc.

    Maybe?

Yes. You have a business right here.

Pick recipes from different coockbooks. Use amazon links as the resource link.

You can also make videoes of cool kitchen supplies and add links to them as well. People will like these videos, and 1 in a 1000 (or more) will probably buy the pepper mixer with lights.

You make it sound easy and you make it legal to mess up a little. People like that. Making meatloaf tomorow.

      Great video - well done!

1 - Let the sou chef show you up a bit ... its funny & keeps them coming back

2 - have the video start & end with your site URL so people can go there after watching the video

3 - Affiliate links to cookbooks, the lit peppermill, etc.

4 - Get them to sign up for a newsletter so you can send them an announcement when a new video shows up. And some affiliate offers, of course.

5 - Add a humerous vote to your site - and make sure your son always wins

Yeah dude. You got me interested in that pepper thing already. May have to go check that out.

I am sure there would be a ton of people that would like exactly the same.

That is good stuff my friend!

Maybe try to filter traffic to a blog, put some nice text on there and monetize with AdSense, maybe Amazon or some other stuff. AdSense is always a solid way to test out profit potential though. I'd put the Adsense box right next to the video.

    Hey Mark,

You can also try monetizing the site with "Top Chef" affiliate products, especially if you are using the recipes from some of them on the site. This affiliate program pays good, and only sells high quality stuff. The "Top Chef" products are hot right now, so you should be able to make a good profit if you get the organic trafiic.

    Hope this helps ...

I think it's all above and I couldn't really add to this. I would have said the same thing about cooking recipes from cookbooks and using certain utensils then linking to places where you can buy.

But I really just wanted to post to say fantastic video and I wish you all the best with this! You're on to something!

    Mark,

You've got a great sense of humor! I enjoyed the family dynamics in the video, and the editing. As others before me have mentioned:

    1. Sign up for relevant affiliate programs.
    2. Keep making more videos.

I wouldn't go for a subscriber only model; while in some cases having a subscription based site can be quite lucrative, in this instance I think you'd limit your visitors and income by doing that.

I really think you're on to something here, and as your site begins to fill up with content I would also:

    3. Contact the producers of Top Chef and get them this video. Maybe they'll run it on their website (or better yet, the next season of the show).

Mark, you have a winner here.

Keep cranking them out. This can be monetized a boat load of ways.

Off the top of my head.

      1. Recipes
      2. Cookbooks
      3. Cooking tools
      4. Recipe membership sites (yes, they exist)

As for actual affiliate programs, oh my, Amazon to start with. Just start
scouring the Internet for stuff. Anything related to cooking will sell.
Clickbank has TONS of cooking related items.

Oh, loved the video. You're a natural on film...not like this klutz here.

I didn't know they had recipe membership sites! Thanks for that one!

Also, I hadn't thought of Clickbank for cooking...I'll check it out.

Awesome! If it wasn't so close to Christmas, my husband would be getting that Pepper Mill in his stocking!

I've always wondered why no one did a line of kitchen products geared towards men - stuff with lights and bells and whistles and motors. I think it would go over like crazy! Maybe you can find similar products that you can use on your site as affiliate links.

I mean really, if I could make a R2D2 pepper grinder, don't you know it would sell!??

EDIT: looks like ThinkGeek already beat me to the punch. That's ok. I'm an affiliate.

Wonderful vid. Your kids are adorable. Normally I wouldn't say this, but try this revolutionary idea: don't worry about monetizing it at all for the first couple dozen episodes. Just do more of these and your audience will help tell you how to move to the next level. You know how to monetize. Getting a faithful audience through organic views will give you lots of options as the site progresses.

    ***UPDATE January 12, 2010***

The incredibly supportive words and positive feedback I received to this thread motivated me to take further action.

I spent a great deal of time over the holiday break to put together a website dedicated entirely to this project. Since my original posting I have also produced two addition videos and have investigated some affiliate programs to promote as well.

Without this forum and the incredibly talented and generous folks who take the time to read posts and make constructive comments I would still be asking myself...What the HELL can I do with this?

Now I know. So thank you.

Oh, and check out my new site!

      Hey Mark,

Lol you never know what you will come up with with this group of marketers.

Seriously though, I like your new site. It looks well worth the effort you put into it. Now get out there and run that traffic to it so you can get your readership built up.

Best of luck with the site, and I hope you prosper well with it ...

I wanted to do something like this for a long time because my lady is an awesome cook.

I think you would do very well with this.

      You could,

do product reviews for amazon stuff.

Get some plr recipe books and re-brand them.

Create a monthly membership of say $11.95
Which includes your awesome videos of say 5-10 recipes on a dvd which you could use kunaki to create them and a script like thediscbuddy.com to automatically send the dvd's.

The 11.95 would include the shipping fee for the dvd each month.

I think the dvd way would work because if the videos would be anything like the one you showed here they could go viral.

      ex.
A few coworkers are talking about what they had for dinner last night at work. One of them is a member of your site and just made one of your recipes last night. So you get mentioned, if the person likes the recipe and your video they might lend the dvd to their co worker. If that person is interested since you would reference your membership on the dvd cover you could get another subscriber, and so on and so on...

I think the video you have was pretty awesome. my son helped me make cookies today, he loves to help.

Good luck and keep em coming.

I like your style - easy to duplicate - POV ( Point of View ) unlike
    the majority of cooking shows.

You have something there, that's for sure.

Immediately, a link to a page with downloadable cooking videos
and YouTube ads ( those photo ads that appear on the right
above your "more info" section ) come to mind.

Mark, you should consider signing up for Youtube ads (or whatever its called). That could bring in some additional bucks. I also like the idea of membership site, generally would pull more revenue. May be you can do both free and premium videos.

Oh and I'm not sure if you'll have much luck with AdSense on recipe sites, I have a couple which have awful CPC.
