Free link cloakers

Is it true it is not safe to use link cloakers that are free? I read articles that say free link cloaking sites can get shut down because porn sites use them, and you have to start re-building your links again. Or some unscrupulous (not everyone) link cloaking owners have less than honorable intentions with your affiliate links as they have your details in their database.
It is so confusing. Shall I use a free link cloaker?

    Yes Mate,

    Its true...if the site shuts down
    all your links are toast and so will
    your income.

    Its best to cloak and host your
    own links.

    Here is a free one I had developed
    for myself.

    i have my own url shortner , this is the best way to use one . this way you can sort out as you want complaints and u are sure that way they won`t die
