That sounds like spam. Ignore the email.

All those emails telling your that old accounts will be deleted if you don't log in and verify your details are all scams. Always.

Click on the link and look at the web address in the address bar of your browser. I guarantee that it won't be yahoo. Study it carefully - often it's something like yahoo.webmail.fakewebsite.com (or even yahoo.webmail.legitimatesite.com - if they've hacked into a real site)

            Hi Rosetrees,

Click on the link and look at the web address in the address bar of your browser. I guarantee that it won't be yahoo. Study it carefully - often it's something like yahoo.webmail.fakewebsite.com (or even yahoo.webmail.legitimatesite.com - if they've hacked into a real site)
            Whoooaa!

Sorry, but that's really bad advice.

Never click on links in emails if you are not 100% sure of the source. Just clicking it can install nasties.

It's pointless anyway, in most email clients you can carefully hover over the link and see the destination in the bottom left.

Most of the spam I get uses subdomains to try and trick people who hover by trying to make the url look legit with a quick glance.

So if the spam is pretending to be from a bank, and the real destination is say - dodgy.com they'll do something like this -

            anybank.com.dodgy.com/verifydetails/secure

I just checked a spam email and here is what the url looks like, which demonstrates this (and this is the url for the 'unsubscribe' link - another sneaky trick)-

            hxxp://m.wxw.yahoo.com_ylt=HfR.Rgf/SIG=11EDvene/**hxxp://wxw.domain.com/337uyu399

So as you can see, at 1st glance it looks like a yahoo address, but in reality, it's the domain.com bit near the end (I changed the real url to domain.com and www to wxw)

            but email shown is
            "Yahoo!" <mailbot@yahoo.com> ????
Where's it showing that? In your inbox, next to the email title? If so, they've probably spoofed it.

Right click the title of the email and select properties (in outlook express) and then the 'details' tab to view the header info. You'll usually see the real address where it came from.

              .
You are 100% totally right and what I meant to say was point your mouse at the link.

Doh - how many times have I typed almost exactly what you said on my antiscam blog. NEVER click on a link. Point your mouse at it and look to see what is displayed at the bottom left of your browser.
