Question about Embedding Video in WebPages

WHats up everybody?

I am putting together a landing page for a campaign I'm starting. When people land on the landing page, they are going to watch a video demo of the product I'm promoting.

Where should I host it? What is the best way to go about hosting video on the web? Do I even need to host it anywhere (like YouTube)?

I was going to use Vimeo because they have the most beautiful video player ever, but according to their guidelines, you must have made the video yourself.... to use them.

I really don't feel like having to watch over my Vimeo account and make sure they don't delete my video, because well, that would be a huge pain. I have better use of my time.

YouTubes quality sucks. Revver has ads. DailyMotion might have to work.... but can anybody who's experienced with web video help me with a solution?

I see sales page videos that use Camtasia, but I'm on a Mac, so that won't work. I want the video to be accessible to every person who lands on my page since I'm buying PPC traffic. Is DailyMotion the only choice? I don't like how they insert their logo in the template of the player.

    Most places are going to insert ads or their logo's unless you have a flash player installed on your site to host your own video.

    What format is your video ? This is a video you had created for your product or are you an affiliate ?

    You can't really blame free service for trying to monetize somehow. They have expenses that they have to pay to provide the service for you that they do.

    Though YouTube quality is not great, it gets the most traffic and of course traffic = sales.

    Look at it this way, if the prospects go to YouTube inspite of the quality, why should you care so much!

    You could also use a video distribution service like TrafficGeyser by a great guy called Frank Sousa. It will get you the widest distribution of your video and therefore the most traffic to your site. Obviously check their terms thoroughly.

      TubeMongol is a distribution service. That is not what I need. I just need a player.

      I'm not blaming them at all for trying to monetize. I just don't want to buy traffic (PPC) and expose MY prospects to Revver's ads.

      I'm BUYING traffic, so putting it on YouTube wouldn't really help me. There quality is horrid anyways.

      By using a service like Vimeo/Revver/Daily Motion... I can be sure that all the traffic I am buying is not going to waste (that is, the video will actually work and play). It would be a waste to put the video up as a .mov and cast out all the Windows users.

        Yes I realize that is a distribution service but it also list other services that I thought you could check.

        Vimeo I will agree is very nice.. I have a Mac also but I use my intel mac with camtasia to create the few videos I have created and output in flash.

        Windows users can play quicktime by the way.

            Personally I would use flash as it is more wide spread with almost everyone being able to access flash.

    Its quite easy actually...

    1. Create your high quality master file. Mov or Mp4 etc.
    2. Encode it to .flv using a pro solution like Sorenson Sqeeze for Flash Pro, Flash Pro video encoder, Flix 8 pro, etc. Just make sure that whatever you use encodes using the vp6 codec and make sure you keep your bit rate modest... I recommend no higher than 220kbps but if you must go higher make sure it is not more than 350kbps so people do not end up waiting on your site for it to load.
    3. Upload your flv video to your hosting account or so an amazon s3 hosting account and embed it with a really light weight player that has buffer controls. You can use something like:

    YouTubes quality sucks
    You might think so because almost NO youtube user knows how to max it out.

    But if you saw what I can do with youtube videos you would instantly change your mind:

    Another player is FLV producer.

    It has the option to call the video from an external source using javascript so your page is light and flexible and you can stream from several sites using the source file.

      www.Flvproducer.com is a great player

      However, calling an external .js file does not make your page "light" it actually makes it heavier.

      The .js adds weight and load time. When the .js calles other files such as the .swf (player) and the .flv (video) it becomes even heavier. The .swf and .js and .flv all need to be optimized.

      Additionally you need to make sure that the player (.swf) has buffering control and that the video (.flv) is a small enough bit rate that it will stream over the connection of your website visitor.

      Luckily FLV Producer does all that.

      But so do the other two options I suggested which also use the javascript include method.

      In fact I am the one who convinced Tracy originally that he needed to impliment the javascript method into FLV Producer ;-)

      The javascript method does not improve on site optimization at all rather it is implimented to address another issue all together:

      www.fastobjectfix.com explains the Eolas patent law suit and why javascript is now the standard for including media rather than the traditional embed.

      I know its trivial but it will help some understand.

    You are the wiz Josh. I guess it is heavier in some way - When I said light I just meant it it is very easy to insert the few lines of code without all the 'gunk" and the zillions of files you seem to get when you make a camtasia FLV.

    Javascript is much easier for me to use where I don't want all the other files in the same area as my player - like in memberships sites.
