So What's With Footer Optin Ads?

Hi Warriors

I have quite a few blogs in different niches and I build my niche lists on these blogs.

I'm still using the old school "hover popup" to grab leads and they are doing good.

But how does those footer ads work for you?

For some reason they irritate me when I see them. Feels like I'm viewing a website through a frame, but it might just be me.

What's your take on them and how have they been serving you?

I'm reluctant to test them and would first like to hear others' opinions on it.

Cheers
Reinhardt

    Hi Reinhardt,

Are you talking about the ones that slide up from the bottom and only show up as a footer?

I don't get to spend much time online myself, but I do know that my wife (and business partner) absolutely HATES these types of ads no matter if that are for an opt in or any other reason.

Our local news station has them on their site and they tend to crash Firefox more than anything else, especially when she tries to close the ad with the little "x" button. I think this is probably the main reason she doesn't like them much.

I'm sure everyone has their own opinion about them, just like any other type of pop'up or hover ad though.

    Thanks,

    Scott

      Yup, exactly them.

I don't like them either. But something has to give don't you think?
I see many big time marketers use them on their blogs.

Personally I think they suck, but that is just my opinion and might not equal the results others are getting. For me it's not worth testing unless I know for a fact that others are choosing them above the traditional methods.

Here's the thing to keep in mind about any type of ad like this, pop'up or otherwise...

As marketers, we're more geared to dislike these types of things because we deal with them a whole lot more than the average internet user usually does. For this one reason, I definitely wouldn't use them in the IM Niche but I think they are probably a lot more effective in Niche Markets.

While we haven't tested them, that is my opinion simply because I remember when this same discussion first came around for pop'ups and hover ads.

I'm sure there are several Warriors that have tested them specifically and can give you some hard data to support their effectiveness (or ineffectiveness) in certain niches though. I would be curious to see if the same data holds true for these types of ads versus the other types that are the "standard" in marketing now.

Hate them! I don't know why but they really annoy me for some reason as a viewer so they're not something I'd inflict on someone on my own website.

I agree that they can also cause the browser to crash, they get stuck sometimes, they block text, etc.
