How Long Should You Wait For Your Host To Setup Domain And Hosting?

My domain registrant and hosting company had my domain setup within a few hours, it took them about 24hrs to upload the parked domain page. When i uploaded my site it was virtually instant.

I use an Australian company which i am very happy with at the moment, but im just trying to get a feel for other companies.

Nowadays,it's very quick for the domain record to propagate the whole Internet. You can regard it as instant.Even if it's not,the hosting provider will provide you a temporary URL like server ip + folder(named by your domain name). For uploading files to the server,it's also determined by the network condition in your office.

With Server Beach, a new domain goes live within about two hours. I generally set up the domain on my server first, before I register it, then register the domain and point the name servers.

    Hi Andrei,

Most people will tell you to avoid using the same company for hosting and domains. There are many reasons for this, mainly involving the fact that if there is a problem with them (like they are down or a payment dispute), it's harder to move company to keep your site up when they have both domain and hosting.

Search the forum/Google for more info on this.

I use namecheap mainly for domains (have done for years) and 99.9% of the time, as soon as I set the DNS, it is ready for use instantly. So I buy it, and 2 minutes later I am site building.

Most people starting out use a company in their country. If your domain is specific to that country (EG .com.au), allegedy there is a minor SEO benefit to keeping hosting local - but I can't prove this, I'm not convinced and I host abroad regardless.

But quite often I find that they are being ripped off and getting bad service. Sometimes it's incredible what they are putting up with. I move my clients to the same services as I use (all in USA, although I am in UK) and they are amazed at the difference - price, speed, features.
