Are the Holidays BAD for Sales?

Just wondering what your thoughts are on this. With Christmas and New Years coming up, do you think this would negatively effect sales, or even a product launch? Anyone had prior experience?

Thanks,
Donny

kinkarso, things will definitely slow down. If you already have a product up, sales will slow down for a while (but not stop completely), but if you're planning a product launch, definitely do not schedule it for between Christmas and New Year's! Wait for until after the 1st.

Good grief no, Christmas is my best time of year (but then again I am an Amazon affiliate).

But of course you are talking about your own products, and I have to say that after the New Year many people what to change their lives: lose weight, make more money, etc etc so it's actually a very good time to promote or launch this stuff.

It all depends on what exactly you are selling. You have to gear yourself towards what is hot in the holiday season.

I still think if you are selling niche products that caters to a "need" sales will remain the same since people will still want to get help for their problems.

I have seen a slight drop-off in traffic and sales. It usually happens around this time of the year. I find things pick up a little bit between Christmas and New Year's and then go back to normal if not a little inflated in January.

January overall is a good month for Internet marketing products because people are looking for a way to make money after the Christmas holiday. When people have had a taste of time off they start thinking about working from home.

Durring the times of Holidays, from November to Jan 1st, does everyone still market their products and websites the same way or do something totaly different? I have just been doing the same thing since mid Nov and my visitor numbers are creeping up more and more each day. With little to no sales of course.

I have also seen a drop, but it's the same thing that happens every year. However...Amazon and niche physical product sites have had a surge of sales the last 2 weeks.

I worked in retail for years. It's the same online, Holidays are slammed and then afterwards there is a slow period.

Hell one of my *NEW* sites (not even top on Google, but top 3 on Bing) did over 15 sales in 1 day last week. Blew me away how much traffic came in from Bing though.

I think a product launch is better taken on after the holidays. Right now, people are shopping for gifts and spending time with family/friends and doing some traveling, at least in the states. If you launched something now you'd probably miss a lot of people because so many other things are going on.

Wait for the first week in Jan when everyone is back and work and focused on having a good new year.

It's been my experince over the past couple of years that info product sales are always down from Thanksgiving through Jan 1st. Affiliate product sales, real physical products, are up during this time period.

After the first of the year info products take a leap ahead for a bit and around Feb physical products again take the lead because of income tax refunds.

Pre Christmas and Pre New Year sales are good because people are buying gifts. After christmas and after new year sales are bad because people just bought a lot of gifts and spent money. This is my experience in sales. Hope this helps.

Also, the people receiving money for Christmas aren't as likely to spend online as they are during other times of the year due the Christmas and New Years being a highly social peak during the year. Christmas money is often spent on alcohol and party supplies. (cigarettes and Rolling Rock for me. yay.)

There seems to be a lot of variation, depending on the products that are being marketed. What advertising and other marketing activities are worth undertaking while I have a bit of a vacation from my J.O.B. at the moment? Blogging? Writing articles? Getting a supply prepared for use in January?

I know I can be researching other products, and setting up web sites to promote, but is there anything else that sets one up for big sales in January?

      Thanks

I don't think so because in this period some products have a high sale potential just like gifts. It completely depends upon the types of products.Specially gifts sales are quite high.

I put up a Christmas sale WSO for Flip Ace and it has done very well today. I just did it as an experiment to see what would happen and was pleasantly surprised.

My sales have almost doubled... I used to hate Christmas.

Only certain niches, gaming is up big for me. Must be lots of folks playing Xbox's Wii's etc on the holidays.

It would definitely depend on the niche in which you are dealing.
But Yes! Things have slowed down.

I've been noticing the sales are very slow in that time for myself. So I would say it will depend on the product.

On my case it's a dating ebook. And it slowed down. I'm still selling about 3 per day.. what is not bad. Bringing about an extra $100/day.

If you are selling some kind of product that is suitable for Christmas the sales probably will go up.

I think Christmas is a great time for IM marketers providing you aren't selling products that stretch people's budgets such as expensive home study courses, for instance.

I've been lucky enough to make sales on Christmas Day every year for the last 3 or 4 years.
