Google Rankings Question (Broad vs Exact Match)

Hello All,

Question for you regarding ranking for my keyword...

I'm #1 for

Blue Widget

I'm #8 for

"Blue Widget"

(Not my real keywords obviously)

Can anyone offer an explanation as to what this might mean? I just assumed that the exact match would follow the broad.

    Stan,

    Not many folks actually look for the keywords with quotes, so that probably explains an awful lot right there.

    Most searchers would just type Blue Widgets in the search box, rather than "Blue Widgets".

    Hi Stan,

    If you want a more accurate picture of your competition, do a search without the quotes. Because, as Pete has mentioned above, that's how users will normally do their search.
