is it better to write affiliate reviews from a site or an article site?

hey guys, im looking to start promoting an affiliate product for the first time and am wondering whether it would be better to disperse my articles on article sites and web 2.0 sites or to have a dedicated site, note that I don't have a site in the niche of the product i'm planning to promote so id need to register a new domain etc? does one work better than the other in terms of seo?

also, is there any article directory/ web 2.0 site (such as squidoo etc) that doesn't allow affiliate links?

thanks

Ruchi

You should do both actually. I would put them on your site first, then on the web 2.0 sites and article directories. Just make sure not to link the exact same content to a page with the exact same content. Ezine Articles is the only directory I know of that does not allow affiliate links.

Doing both will help you pre-sell. The most important is how much of an expert you are in copywriting. You can bring all the traffic you want, but if you are bad at copywriting, then you won't have much conversions.

That's actually a very valid point. If copywriting isn't your strength, you can improve your copywriting skills by reading copywriting blogs like Brian Clark's CopyBlogger.

Writing a review on article site is easier and can be done faster. Having your own site does take more work, but you have more control over it (Ezine can take out your articles, for example). Of course if you could do both that's the best path, but if you had to choose one:
-use article sites to make money relatively quicker.
-make your own site if you want to make money in the long run.

I've done both before. If it is a product that is fairly new it typically shouldn't be that hard to rank either way. you can start with 2.0 sites if you want. But using your own site and building a couple of backlinks should get you ranked if that's what you are looking for in a short amount of time.
