Double Opt In For A Product Launch?!

The title might be a little deceiving, as I am NOT going to require opt in to download my product.

What I am planning to do is put an opt in form on my download page for free updates/video lessons/discounts etc. My question, however, is whether this should be confirmed opt in, or whether single will be fine. I figure anyone on my download page who decides to enter their information probably wants to be on the list, but many shy away from single opt in... Is it OK in this situation?

IT is always safer to go with double opt in and that way you know they are very interested in what you have for them.

Oh also, I have a bunch of products at the end of the guide that are like "recommended" investments for once people start making money... I just have plain links to each service's website in them but my friend said "Hey, why not make them affiliate links... you never know." I thought about this and while it would suck to miss out on those sales, perhaps I should keep the links non-affiliate so the recommendations come across as more sincere?

I'm not sure if this sort of thing is frowned upon or anything like that : /
