The Importance of List Bulding...

Hey everyone.

I was cruising around the forums today and came to a revelation. In my 7 months in IM I have never even tried to build a list

All I have done is really promote affiliate products through article marketing. I have not made one cent from this, so I have experienced this will not work for me.

I realized so many "big name" marketers around here are always talking about their list. I have never processed before when I spent countless hours reading their messages and posts.

I am not looking for overnight riches. I am not in deep financial trouble. Given this "cushion" and wanting to give my 2nd attempt at IM an excellent effort, I am looking to drop everything that I am doing now to focus on giving away free content and building a list.

I was wondering if people could give their opnions on my idea?

The one thing that has kept me away from building a list in the past is I have never created a product(I have no clue how) to sell to my list...is there other ways to make money from your list besides your own products?

Not only would I love some feedback, but I think this could be great information to struggling IMers(there is A LOT of us) and newbies.

Thanks!

Yes you can get one of the resell rights ebook in your niche and get a graphic designer to create a new ecover for it.

Right there you have a unique product to give away for free.

Hey you can do this for several different niches. The more attractive the eCover is the more subscribers. Of Couse the title must claim to FIX a problem.

    that's the fastest way!

This seems to be a very easy way for product creation if you know an expert, but if you do not, what would be an effective way to go about getting an interview?

I would think that simply calling/e-mailing and asking out of the blue would be a little forward and may turn someone off...wouldn't it take awhile t build a relationship for them to trust you in order to interview you?

Where exactly would you go to puchase a "resell rights" ebook? Do you just simply buy the rights to the book and do with it as you please? Could you buy the rights and then sell it to your niche...or even rewrite it in your own language so it is unique to your personality?

Well I am now part of a monthly membership resell rights club but if you dont want that monthly charge and just need something quickly. I have used this site before. Private Label Rights, Master Resale Rights, Resell Rights, Private Label Right, ebook, video, software

There are tons of other sites where you can scan for RLR stuff and rework it with new graphics and use it on your squeeze page or evern recreate it as a new product or use it as a bonus when you create your own. What you can do with such is endless.

Yes, be creative about the packaging. Find several coures that support each other and make a unique package with it. Plus there are graphic designers here that can design a full site with cover for nothing.

Then you can use one of the book for getting people to sign up to your list. How easy is that.

One thing though clean up those book, make the graphics presentable and enjoyable for the read. You will have to do some work on those files but that nothing for the fact that you are getting a whole business for nothing.

great I should run a WSO or is it WOS?? whatever!

            later, peace I am out!

you can get PLR and MRR products on internet marketing giveaways... just find someone giving them away to build their list!

if you want to buy plr or mrr right away the 2 best sites that I've found are tradebit and master-resale-rights

Creating products is easy... just get openoffice and write what you know how to do that people would want to know (enough to join your list)

The truth is you don't even need to create a product, you can use other products with giveaway rights... I actually create ebooks with giveaway rights for others to give to their list.

You can also sell affiliate products or buy MRR or PLR products and resell them.

This is definitely something that I am going to look into. I am not an "outstanding" writer by any standards so this method could be very effective for me.

Or take a PLR book and remake it into a video. That's a good way to create your own product too...

First off, I don't know many who did have their own product when they first started out . Affiliate marketing works well.

As for bait ... you can find an unknown service that is offered for free and basically give the link away for the opt in.

The problem comes from this ...

If you are having a hard time making sales without a list , what skills need to be learned ?

A list of emails will do you no good if your sales skills are lacking .

More important than sales skills is relationship building ( social) skills . The better these skills are , the more lacking your sales skills can be .

When you do build a list ... remember free can kill in the end . Get a list to expecting everything free and well... that is what they expect .

Free advice is usually the best freebie . This takes getting to really know your niche . Once you know your niche well enough to give pointers the average list member does not know, you will appear to be an authority.

Give the advice free but when it comes time for a link to a product or service ... make sure it will profit you in some way .

I feel my sales skills are good and I have great social skills(I work with many of my own clients in my day job).

The thing that is lacking for me and would be something I need to learn to do when it comes to building a list is traffic generation. I have never been too good with seo, keyword targeting, etc.

Another main problem I have faced is picking a PROFITABLE niche, which is what I feel has held me back. I remember when I first started IM months ago I originally tried to market the golfing niche, which I feel was a mistake...it was way too saturated and the buyers were not hungry(it was a hobby not a necessity). Also, in a down-economy, people end to golf less or even give it up for a period...it is an expensive sport.

I have been thinking of using the IM niche, but have not had any success in this niche and it seems EXTREMELY saturated.

So finding a good niche is the process I should probably focus on for right now in order to generate a more targeted list.

I see said the blind monkey .

Go to the seo section of the forum. Some real gold in there .

Golf is huge but can be profitable . You just have to funnel the niche down to something you can manage . This can be done with long tail keywords .

Seo book is a great place to funnel down to long tails for free. Googles keyword tool is another fine resource.

Once you find long tails that have some good searches with little competition, use these keywords in your site url, titles , and kw tags .

Write optimized articles , put them on your site , then on the better article directories . Do not link the same articles in the directories to the same articles in your site .

I know this is a short and somewhat scattered version but there are a lot of post dealing with this on here . look at them.

If I can be of help, contact me through pm or the free link in my sig .

    Just a leak

Give away tons of PLR products... so much that people can't have it all. And they end up paying you something. That's how you build buyer list and still make money. Kill 2 birds with one stone.

As you said you have done all this promoting and have not made a cent. At least if you would've built a list you would've had the opportunity to continue promoting to them until they eventually bought what your selling. So it is important to have one.

...or they opt out of the list because they got sick of getting offers to a product they didn't want to buy in the first place.

If they've opted in, the first part is achieved...either they opt in or don't. Your goal in most cases is to get as many as possible to opt in since the extra promotional opportunities increases your chances of a sale...and the unit cost of email is awful close to zero..so the downside is pretty limited.

As mentioned above you can get decent PLR material that you can use as a freebie and also as the product that you sell. There's plenty of Warriors that sell really high quality stuff - just check out the WSO section.

Plus, you can also sell affiliate products to your list too.

Of course, you need to have an overall plan for building the relationship with your list first.

And the traffic which all boils down to keywords......

      Hi Mahesh,

Actually any niche you can write about. if you are involved with technology information related technology write about the different things that it can do and accomplish. anything that you can get content out of you can write about. then give it away set up a squeeze page and give the report away it is the simplest way to build a list

Ohh and drive traffic from everywhere to the page.

You can make lots of money promoting other people's products to your list, but one thing to consider... these days one of the hardest things to get is... people's ATTENTION.

To just put up some free information and hope people will subscribe to your list to read it and then "listen" to you thereafter is... not as simple as it sounds, because it's likely your subscribers will forget who you were 5 minutes later... UNLESS... your free information is so very extremely good and you keep on shocking them with MORE great information for free, especially in the first days/weeks...

In IM everyone is being bombarded with emails all day, it's very difficult to stand out from the crowd.

One of the best methods to build a list is to build a "buyers" list... Sell a low end product that is just AWESOME and makes people drop their jaw at the quality you gave them for $7, $17 or $27. If you can do that, then you will win them over and they will wait for every next email you send out.

After that, you can have some "magic" happen... :-)

Good Advice yeah that will solidify you . Or you can do what I do and not promote others products and then if you do end up which I did recently they will pay attention to it because they know you never do it. either way give them high value for low cash .I fully agree
