What are the best ways to market a webmaster forum?

    Wish I knew.

    Here is what I did and eventually gave up on.

    Me and another person started Webmaster Forums And Marketplace

    We ran a posting/referral contest with $2000 in prizes. $1000 of it is money I put up and the other $1000 was from sponsors.

    The contest ran for a few months and the forum was going really good. Contest ended and everyone left.

    So that is an effective way to start a forum.

    To keep it active...

    I would say I should of worked on SEO and brought in SE traffic to keep it going.

    Users complain about dead forums, but they will not contribute themselves.
    A common problem for forum owners.
    They will have it all, but not work for it. :p

    The first question I will ask you...

    When I look at the homepage of your forum, what will I see that tells me this forum is worthwhile and different from the other webmaster forums?

    And as a follow up....

    What are you doing to make your forum worthwhile and different?

    Answer these questions well, and I think you will be on your way to growing. I can see you already have traffic, but I think the sense of what makes your site unique is not immediately clear.
