Need Wordpress Help, Can't Delete Folders

Seriously folks, this is a little out of hand for me. This support thread was opened a while ago, and I have the same exact problem as he does.

I cannot delete those files to save my life, and there's nothing I can think of to get rid of them.

I know there are a few wordpress warriors out there, have you conquered this problem? I can't use this site at all until I get this problem resolved, and you all know what a single site can mean for someone.

Please help, and advice or ideas to try could be a huge help to me.

Was this a manual install of wordpress? Have you tried upgrading to 2.9 yet? Who is your hosting? You are unable to delete files and remove the database from the host?

    Weird.

    You got me here.

Im assuming you tried to change the permissions of the folders and deleting.
    Tried renaming to something else.
Tried deleting with FTP software and within cPanel.

Never heard or seen the problem with wp-admin link leading to the root install (if I got the support ticket right).

The problem with folders not being deleted could have to do with file ownership on the host. That depends a bit on how the host handles things and if you installed it manually or through the hosting control panel.

If that is the actual problem you should be able to delete them through the C-Panels (if thats what you got) file handler.

Let us know how it goes.

What ftp program are you using?

Some older ones don't let you delete directories if there are sub-directories within them.

Try a better one such as Filezilla if this is the case.

If the site is a new one, you could delete it completely in cpanel or whm and then recreate it again from scratch.

    It's possible something got corrupted.

    Hope this helps.

Alrighty, so first time around the renaming didn't work. But after seeing aaron's post, I decided to try it again.

    Magically, It worked.

All the corrupt folders are renamed and it was most likely a corrupt install in the first place (thanks Fantastico) and I manually reinstalled it just a bit ago, the longest way possible on my cuteftp.

I'll prolly contact my host to remove those other folders, as I can't.

But thank you guys for the help!

Just another reason I love the WF, people helping people all the time.
