Article Writing Tips Please

After reading hundreds of posts I decided to take lots of action for 1 month (I'll keep going of course). I read a post about guy who decided to write 5 articles a day - that inspired me.

Part of my action plan for my new product line was to write 50 articles (I'm half way there) and create 50 short videos - for marketing purposes (I'm also half way there too.) I am not about to give up now!

MY PROBLEM

While I'm a decent writer but I'm finding it hard to write articles using very similar keywords/topics.

For example, let's say my product is on puppy training (it's not, but the example will work). I've done keyword research and found many closely related keywords that I would like to target in my articles.

how to train puppies
training puppies
puppy training techniques
etc.

After writing about 25 articles, I'm running of out material to write about.

HOW do people write so many articles on topics that are very closely related without using the same verbiage over and over again?

HOW do folks find more info to write about? Do you combine your own knowledge with Internet searches and constantly rework the material?

HELP - Thanks and Happy Holidays

Simply paraphrase and reword your existing articles, making sure that they are at least 25% unique.

I would actually go more for 35%-40% unique just to be on the safe side.

This is so that the article directories won't nail you for duplicate content -- although a few may consider them "derivative."

If you still have trouble, outsource the rewrites to textbroker.com

Most rewrites can be had for about $2-$2.50 a piece.

I have about 10 of them on there right now, and they jump on rewrites fast.

I suspect that many (most?) people try to write large numbers of articles without having an adequately clear concept of this.

Some articles may be to get immediate sales. Some may be purely for backlinks (spun rubbish may be good enough for that). Some may be to get clicks-through to a site/blog or a lead-capture page. Others may be for the specific purpose of being re-published from article directories by other webmasters (a potential purpose overlooked by many).

For some of the purposes I've suggested, that advice will be totally inapplicable.

One way to get a fresh angle on a topic is to search Yahoo answers or discussion forums, just to get a feel for the kind of questions people are asking. Many of the questions are basic ones you'll hear over and over again, but sometimes you'll run across something interesting and unusual.

You could also check out books from the library that are related to your topic. The information will be better quality and more reliable than the average random blog or website, and you'll get a feel for the *depth* of the topic. Especially if you compare a mediocre or just plain bad book with books that are REALLY good. Might give you good ideas on how to approach certain subtopics.

There is a nice report that I like from Brad Carrol which might interest you:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...yword-7-a.html

The other thing to do is go into long tail keywords, and find a unique approach to puppies.

    Training puppies for show
training puppy to get your shoes
training puppy not to eat your shoes
training dachsund puppy vs training a german shepard puppy

There are so many kinds of puppies. You have to incorporate other things.

I'm doing a similar experiment myself right now.

Would love to subscribe to your youtube channel.

A fellow Warrior - Brad Carroll - has a nice little PDF out called '16 From 1' or something like that. It gives you 16 different ways to come at a topic to write different types of articles about the same subject matter. He has it listed for sale at his blog here: 16 Ways to Write an Article & Kick Writer’s Block webcontentwriting.info

But I got it as a WSO here on the forum, so before you spend what he's asking on that blog page, you might want to search the WSO section here. It's worth the $12 he's asking on his blog, by the way, but if his WSO is still running, might as well save a few bucks. It's good stuff for keeping the ideas flowing as you write about the same topic.

              1. I like the idea regarding searching Yahoo Answers - great suggestion.

              2. I've just downloaded the eBook 16 Articles... It's printing now and I won't give away all of the details but the author goes over 16 different types of articles that you can write - such "Mistakes" List, "Benefits" List, FAQ article etc.

He has good examples for each one - it's worth getting the eBook. It was only 6 bucks! Well worth it for sure.

I'll really be able to use this list to continually rework and crank out new articles.

To the person who wanted to see my Youtube Channel - I would post it but the short videos aren't the best. What I did was print out a list of keywords, then shoot a short 1-3 minute video on each.

I've done lots of experimenting with Youtube, Tubemogul etc. Using a lot of info learned here I'm learning to optimize my videos, just like we do with articles. Very cool stuff. I've spent a lot of time making sure to include my keywords in the title, description, tags etc. There's much more to submitting videos than meets the eye, but I've already started building my list from folks watching my videos and signing up for my list. As soon as I started uploading my videos, I started getting signups. Very cool.

After digesting this thread I'll now be able to use the same techniques for my videos - just like my articles.

When I get caught up with writer's block on a product or topic, I turn to my trusty Market Samurai.

In your example I'd enter the "how to train puppies" and then do keyword research, setting my phrase length to 5 to 10 words. I'd get back a long list of potential phrases related to my topic, which is usually enough to get the wheels turning again.

The second thing, always start with the problems. What problem is your product solving? What features of your product make it different? How does your product compare to someone else's? Can you write about it in the first person, and tell a story about how you used it to solve the problem? Can you tell a story of someone else using the product, and how it solved their problem?

The biggest thing you are running into is your own conversation in your head. Take time to explore other people's thoughts on Google, Yahoo Answers, and forums in your market, and soon your head will be swimming with ideas. (WRITE THEM DOWN)

I disagree with the 25% uniqueness thing .. You should strive for 70%+ if you plan on "properly" spinning your articles.

It is so sick to see an article directory with 100 articles all on the same thing and they are only 25% in uniqueness.. This is some of the junk that clutters up the internet and article directories.

If you are going to rewrite it then rewrite it and stop being so lazy just to get links. Creativity will take you a great deal further then just slapping up junk.

As far as how you write that many articles .. it's simple

    * Use tips in your article and spin those tips.. Anyone and I mean anyone can come up with 100 tips on a subject and create many different articles.

    * Fully rewrite you paragraphs, dont just reword this or that.. Fully rewrite them and if you do this by paragraph you will find it is a great deal easier than you think.

    * Bullet Points - Just like the tips or sales copy, write up many different bullet points and surround your articles around those. You can easily come up with 100 bulet points and create many different articles.

    * Write some articles for fun and do not always try to hit for keywords. Many miss this because they are so concerned about keywords. Some articles written just for fun have had great results.

    * Create articles based around "how to", if you write an article about a subject write it as if it is something you are currently doing. For example if I was training a puppy then I would write down step by step on how to do that. In this case though you only list a few steps and then lead them to your money site. Creating many different step by step articles is not that hard...

Use tips in your article and spin those tips.. Anyone and I mean anyone can come up with 100 tips on a subject and create many different articles.
This is such a huge tip that I think a lot of article writers don't think about. I know I didn't until I had heard James mention it once before.

The thing is that if you do this properly you can actually write unlimited unique, useful and interesting articles simply by putting a few paragraphs around the tips. You don't use all 100 of the tips in each article, but use 5 or 10. So then each article can have it's own twist ......

"5 ways to keep your dog from terrorizing the neighborhood"

"10 tips for a perfectly trained beagle"

"How to make your 4 legged friend the perfect companion"

    etc....

Then you write a couple of paragraphs at the begining of the article and one for the closing of the article that relates to the unique title.

The system over at articleproductions.com lends itself to this quite nicely and I have done it a few times but admittedly not as much as I SHOULD be doing it. But that's because I lack focus.
