How about buying some ebooks and apply the strategies? Many successful IMers started off with that.

      Hi MrPmz,

I'm sure you don't want to hear this, but before you even consider finding a mentor you really need to sit down and think about which area of Online Marketing you wish to concentrate in. Any good mentor is going to ask that you define your goals and plans so they can help you succeed from there. In order to have some clear goals, you need to pick one of the above topics you mentioned that fits best with your style. You can always move on from there, but start with 1 and practice succeeding and learning all you can in that area before moving on.

I tried that at first but there was so much information it gave me information overload and the problem i found with a lot of ebooks even though they were meant to be newbie friendly some parts left me guessing and not knowing what to do or getting stuck, so i decided since i have saved enough money through offline work that it would be better to get a mentor and be guided one on one by someone who knows how to help a newbie get started and make money so i won't have to keep spending money buying and reading ebooks and spending hours everyday reading and doing trial and error.

If the courses you're purchasing require trial and error, I'd say they aren't very good ones. Although I do totally understand this, I've noticed wayyyy too many products that fail in the newbie friendly department despite whatever claims are made.

      Hi.

I am a total newbie to all this. The idea is to make money from it and by investing in a coach (unless someone will do it for free) you are already in a negative balance. There are tonnes of information available though there is a requirement to weed through it making it a bit of a chore.

I am thinking with the need (is it required?) to get a domain name and hosting up and running there is going to be a requirement for a (small) investment which means starting with a minus balance. I would have thought its best to keep costs down and to maximise profits.

The best thing you could do is once you find a mentor or invest in a good step-by-step program is just take action on the information and knowledge you gain.

Also, one of the biggest hurdles for people that are new at Internet marketing is not so much the concepts and the stuff they should be doing, but it is the technical hurdles. Things like how to setup your hosting, how to setup your domain to work with your hosting, how to get your first squeeze page online, how to submit content to article directories, etc.

I know this may seem really silly to many reading this, but from my experience helping people in one of my group coaching programs and in helping my father individually. It was always the technical aspects that was and still is holding people back.

I used to struggle with those things, but I learned by consistently practicing and I got stronger at it. So having someone you can turn to for those things when you get stuck is not a bad thing to have going for you if you can afford it.

As far as systems go and information there is plenty of awesome training courses online and even in the Warrior Special Offer section. When you find something take action and if you need help implemting it then consider a coach or mentor to assist you.

          Hope this helps you!

            Hey,

I wanna add my 2 cents here b/c this is a bit of a "personal thing" for me.

I don't know why...but I really get bothered when people ask for mentors with 20 posts and do that.

Not because they ask (they are smart to ask and realize they need one) but it's pretty presumptuous that someone you would want as your mentor would read your note and be like "WOW I want this guy."

I mean seriously...people who are super successful have TONS of things to do and yes...we all like to help but I don't know if this is the most effective way to go about it.

Start browsing the forum for people you like...add to this community and then when you earn PM rights...contact the person who helped you out.

50 posts really isn't hard if you spend the time asking strong and well defined questions and then participating in the feedback that you get...

Now...the reason why I quoted this message is another point I want to make... Use the search engines and Youtube to find the "tech" stuff you are struggling with.

For example, here are the tech things listed above.

            1. How To Setup Your Hosting- hostgator has this and support chat as well...no longer an excuse.

            2. How To Get Your Domain To Work With Hosting- Read answer above.

            3. How to Get Your First Squeeze Page Online- Here's the free software I used to create my squeeze page and Hostgator can help with loading it online. **Just Released** Brand New FREE Software easily creates unlimited niche opt-in pages in just minutes...

Free as well...not the best software but it's good enough to get a 50% plus opt in rate.

            4. How to Submit Articles to Directories- Here's one for ezinearticles.com and it will always be pretty close to this on all directories.

So with that being said...it took me all of 5 minutes to find answers to that.

My point is...you have to take initiative to find this stuff...do a damn google search or youtube search...being some of hte highest trafficked websites online...I'm SURE just about any problem can be found solved on there.

Between that and actually taking some effort and "DOING IT" (troubleshooting) you can solve anything.

Most people (myself included in the past and sometimes today) use technical issues as an excuse.

            Just my 2 cents.

            Cheers,

            Brad

Just want to make sure of this...nothing against you Paul...you're brilliant.

Just this issue brought the fire in me out...drives me crazy when people ask for a mentor w/o doing the work...a forum post isn't the place to do this.

            Cheers,

      Peter.
Honestly, I haven't made money from this program yet. I only joined Chris Farrell's membership site two weeks ago. However, I am confident that I should be making some kind of money by next month.

He has a one week trial period for just a dollar, then it's 27 dollars a month that includes free web hosting and tons of step by step training.

I chose Chris to be my mentor because of his approach to online business. Yes this is a business like any other business. You need to have the right kind of mindset when getting into online marketing.

      • Just be careful when you do find a mentor I had a guy that was going to teach me some stuff and we're now three weeks in, I'm still waiting. My advice would be to learn from the forum and just get started.

I've given up on 'my mentor' now and am just getting on with it. I'd rather get started and get stuff done than sit about waiting for somebody to make more empty promises. Just be sure you choose wisely if you do go down the mentor route!

Nobody can guarantee that you will make money online no matter how
good your mentor is. What you earn will depend on your commitment and
skill in being to implement what you're taught.

This will limit you somewhat as folks in the US don't work during your
work time. I worked with somebody from Australia once and it was purely
email on a rather delayed basis between mailings.

I'm open to learning anything to make money online such as affiliate marketing, cpa etc, i don't really know much about the IM world yet.
You probably need somebody to help you with a business plan if you have
no direction yet. You don't want to be all over the place and not every
model is right for every person.

Please let me know and pm me with an email address i can contact you on because i don't have enough post yet to PM.
Okay, this is probably the most important thing I or anybody will say to
    you in this thread.

Anybody, and I mean ANYBODY can come here and claim ANYTHING.

You need to get their REAL name and research them.

Ask them what credentials they have that can be VERIFIED.

This can be anything from products they have at Clickbank to membership
sites they have to anything. Find testimonials from people who you can
    contact and verify.

Go to Google and type in the person's name and see if any dirt comes up.

If somebody is an outright scammer, you will find stuff...tons of it.

If they're a nobody (unless they're really under the radar) then nothing
will come up, or very little.

You have to be very careful when selecting a mentor.

Plus, any mentor worth his salt will actually turn people away if he feels
    he can't help them.

For example, I just received a request from somebody with ZERO English
skills. Not that there is anything wrong with this, but for somebody like
me who can only communicate in English and knows (from past experience)
that trying to make this work will be very difficult, I turned the person
    down.

The scammers will take on anybody and try to soak them for as much
    as they can.

And then you have the unskilled marketers who offer to train you for
nothing except a percentage of your profits. They figure they have nothing
to lose and everything to gain if you stumble onto a system.

Problem is, these people usually don't have a clue what they're doing and
will ultimately end up being little of no help to you at all.

Trust me...I am speaking from first hand experience on all of this.

Bottom line: You have to be extremely careful when chosing a mentor.
Forget about the money you might be blowing. The wasted time working
with somebody who isn't qualified to train a donkey to spit tobacco is
something you can never get back.

Take this warning in the spirit in which it is intended.

      Have to disagree Steven.

I can guarantee that any aspect you want to teach me ... I can make money with it .

Your aggressive teaching style and my refusing to go down without a fight would guarantee it .

Guess what... you have taught me a lot over time and I never have taken one of your courses . Because I liked certain ways you went about things, I paid attention and have made money from them .

Troy, I understand what you're saying, but somebody with that kind of
work ethic and determination probably doesn't even need a mentor. But
no mentor, no matter how good, can guarantee somebody that they will
make money if they don't put the effort it.

Ask anybody worth their salt who mentors and they'll tell you that you
never make guarantees because there are just too many variables in
        the equation.

Having said that, I've had people email me who I never spent 5 minutes
with, thanking me for helping them make their first dollars online through
        whatever book it was.

Sometimes all you need is a little push in the right direction. I never had
a real mentor. I had a couple of people who I spent a little time on the
phone with one night, but for the most part, I worked through this
nightmare of a profession on my own. I made it on my sheer determination
        and effort.

But had I gotten a mentor, there is no way he could have ever promised
me anything because I was the one who ultimately had to do the work.

And that holds true for each and every one of us unless we've got some
rich uncle who's got a ton of money to throw at us.

Aha! You want someone to go out and make you money.

Why didn't I think of this?

I'm open to learning anything to make money online such as affiliate marketing, cpa etc, i don't really know much about the IM world yet.
When the student is ready, the teacher appears.

You have a good list there to start, and if I were you I'd take some time to learn about those things a bit first before wasting a mentors time. This forum is chock full of answers that explain what affiliate marketing is, what cpa is, etc.

The search function will speed up finding answers and google search will also be beneficial.

Honestly, you don't need to learn in depth about all those ways to make money - you just need to be familiar with them in that they exist, and with a sentence or two a definition of how they work.

If you are looking to go long term you will need a niche in place that you want to pursue, and once you have that you will be able to determine the best ways to monetize on that niche. Some might work best with adsense, some might be best with affiliate marketing, some might work best selling your own product. Like I said, you don't need to know all these ways in depth - only the ones you will ultimately need to use.

Ok first of all i'd like to thank everyone who has read my post and given an opinion.
Secondly i wanted to state that i HAVE been doing tons of research for the last month spending hours everyday reading post forums free ebooks, buying ebooks and have come to realize through all that time doing trial and error and just guessing a lot because what i've found is most information that i have downloaded or bought doesn't cover exactly everything in detail - for beginners like me even a small detail left out can leave us newbies completely confused. Also having been left confused i had to go out and find more information for where i was lost and yes after some research i did find the answer i was looking for.

    Quote: avenuegirl
"Aha! You want someone to go out and make you money.

Sorry but you got the wrong idea of my point of view. What i mean is that a proven successful mentor who has successfully coached other students to become successful online and of course i know that the mentor can only put in 50% and i have to go the other 50% in applying the knowledge i learned to make money, obviously they are not going to be doing all the hard work for me.

I respect everyone's opinions here as everyone has a right but for me in the past month if i had a mentor who would talk with me and help me lay out a plan and set me on a straight path i believe it would help me a lot and save me more time that's why i've been working really hard to save money through offline work to afford a mentor (by the way I'm only 18)

    Happy new year everyone!

Um, no. You have this wrong. You don't put in 50 percent. You have to put in 110%.

      Happy new year everyone!
That's a good start. But you will be faced with another issue soon, so perhaps this is where you can focus your efforts while you are saving up.

Not all mentors/coaches are built the same. All of them have different areas of expertise according to the type of marketing they are familiar with.

Paul up above has a detailed step by step course that will show you every stinking last detail of a lot of things and it is all in video to boot. I can vouch for him on what he has - if it is just some technical "how to" stuff that you are looking for.

I agree with Steven as well - no one can guarantee you will make money.

I don't think my statement above was that far off.

Where was I going? Oh, yeah. You need to figure out what exact direction you want to go with all of this in general still. It seems you are in the mind set of "I want to make money online" and that is not what it is all about.

The real direction is "I want to build a business, and it is going to be a flower business or it is going to be an appliance business, or it is going to be a dog grooming business (or what ever) and I want to market this business online"

See the difference here? Once you have a more specific direction or focus a lot of things that you "thought" you needed to learn will no longer matter.

A (good) mentor is not going to tell you which/what business you need to go into. You need to figure that out.

You may or may not need to know affiliate marketing, or cpa, etc. And the order of which you will need to learn those things in will change according to the business plan you wind up putting together.

Yeah that's why i've decided that a mentor helping me along the way and knowing where i am at, would be a lot more suitable for me

I'm not trying to be mean here, but...

You have the wrong attitude IMO.

It's very self centered - 'I want someone to mentor me, you have to have proof, etc.'

It sounds like to me you want them to hand over their years of experience to you for free.

But my question is, what's in it for the mentor?

No one owes you anything...and I think your attitude kind of suggests that you think people owe you things.

      I could be wrong here.

What does the mentor get from training you? It really does take a lot of time to mentor someone...

While you are researching and spending hours on great places like WF, keep an eye out for possible mentors.

It really doesn't take much effort at all to find quality people here on WF. Just check out their profiles, other posts or threads they have made...

The worst thing you can do is try to do everything. Focus on one area at a time. Once you find an area you want to work with, scour the forum for people of value that add relative posts.

This will help you get to know the person. If they are successful, helpful and otherwise have the traits you want in a mentor, contact them.

I feel like I have made this same post a lot lately... so many people ignore the true resource of WF...warriors themselves.

For example, if you like what Steven Wagenheim has to say go to his profile. Click on the stats tab and check out his other threads/posts. Okay, now Steve has like 3000+ posts so it will take a while... but just skim what kind of stuff he gives away everyday. If he's not your cup of tea or he is not pursuing the type of IM you are interested in (though frankly he does a ton!) move onto somebody else.

This is a great way to evaluate possible mentors. Along the way give them kudos and get involved in their threads. You are much more likely to be brought on as a mentoree after the person has seen some valid effort on your part. Some will already have a mentoring program, some will not.

I concur with Steve (see!) that those who are willing to take on anybody probably shouldn't be mentoring anyone. It isn't always the case, but I imagine it is more often than not.

      Good luck

I am looking for someone who can guarantee that they can make me money and teach me what i need to know to make money and continue to make money online.

Requirements: Reliable and easy to get in contact with and replies to emails on a regular basis, would also be good if i ever really need to talk over the phone that i can contact through skype - i live in australia and my current time zone is gmt 11+ (daylight savings) when daylight savings is over it's back to gmt 10+.

I'm open to learning anything to make money online such as affiliate marketing, cpa etc, i don't really know much about the IM world yet.

Please let me know and pm me with an email address i can contact you on because i don't have enough post yet to PM.

Thanks and have a nice day!
How much are you willing to pay for this mentorship?

that kind of one on one program is (and should be) pretty expensive...

Or do you expect this for nothing?

I agree 100% with Mcdavies. If you want to learn this from someone who is newbie friendly Chris Farrell is AWESOME. I have not joined his membership site yet, but the free email course i signed up for is GREAT. I cant wait to see what he teaches when you sign up.

    Hey mrpmz,

Consider yourself lucky since you're only 18 years old and starting out. Just imagine where you'll be in few short years.

Treat this like you're going to a prestigious university. Being at the warrior forum is a great place to be educated.

Sure, it may be hard to decide on which path to take. But I think you are intelligent enough to make the right choices

    best of luck to you!

    Hello mrpmz,

The first thing that you need to do is to have the correct mindset. You need to learn some basic skills and educate yourself. By that I mean you need to understand what you are doing and then implement what you've learned.

How do I know this? I have a good mentor. I agree with McDavies, Chris Farrell is a good mentor. I'm one of his students and I've learned alot from him.

Don't forget, most of us started out as newbies. Some succeeded and some failed. Those who failed, probably gave up because they didn't understand the process. Internet marketing is a business and before you start a business, you need to learn some skills and you need to understand it. It takes time and work but it is achievable.

As you are going through the learning curve, there are also some ebooks that you can read to enhance your knowledge.

    I hope that helps.

    Warm regards
    Janet

You don't need a mentor you just need direction and momentum. My snippet of advice in these instances is to peer away from the make money online niche and look at other succesful nichepreneur's (intrepreneur's and what not).

Reading the Super Affiliate handbook may also be advised, you'll see a 6 figure business in there too so you can see what it will take to match that.

A lot of it is just focus so get focused on something and stay focused on it.

Also don't fall for the get rich overnight unless you are already rich enough to throw cash at projects that can make you rich overnight. Good Luck.

Robert, it's what separates those who will make it from those who won't.

When I'm contacted for coaching, after my reply to the person, explaining
what I will require, most of the responses are, "never mind."

It makes my life a lot easier not having to waste time with people who
      don't have what it takes.

First of all I have to agree with much of the above. There is so much that you can learn from some of the warriors here. I was mentored by Alex jeffreys but have learned a whole heap of different things on this forum.
The second thing is mindset. Someone above mentioned this already and I agree completely. Without getting yourself into the correct frame of mind you are pretty much doomed to failure in almost everything you do.

I do run a coaching course through email that will teach anyone how to build a sound business plan. It works, its exactly what I learned myself, but it does take work and builds over time. I do not charge at this time, I am more interested in building lists.
    Its in my signature.
Good luck with your journey and don't fall for the you can make $30,000 this weekend only working two hours a day type offers. If you do and it works you can mentor me lol.
