WordPress VS Joomla for simple CMS site

I've got a job open on Odesk.com to create a simple wordpress theme using the attached JPG file. *NOTE: I'm not a bookkeeper or CPA. This is an example jpg ; )

Do you think it'd be best to make this a wordpress site or a Joomla site (or something else)? I need it to be an easy CMS so content can be changed easily, but I'm not married to wordpress on this.

-it's only 3-4 pages
-the homepage layout is shown. The other pages will have just simple text based layout with no bulletted items, testimonial boxes, etc. But they will still have the contact form

I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

I prefer wordpress rather than joomla. For 3-4 page site even WP is also a killing.

What do you mean "wordpress is also a killing"...I assume you mean WP is good for this 3-4 page site? Your wording confused me a bit ; )

Joomla is a steeper learning curve.

For a simple site like this, you'll get it up faster as a wordpress site and I do believe it will be easier to maintain.

WP is also too much for a simple 4 page site. (unless you expect an increase in pages in future) But with in Joomla and WP, I prefer WP. Easy to install and manage.

I think Radhika means WP is probably overkill. Personally, I think it's perfect.

BTW, you could make that theme with Artisteer fairly easily yourself if you have any interest.

You might also post requests for stuff like that here first before oDesk.

(I tried to set up an acct at oDesk and they force you to go thru a battery of silly tests before you can get approved to bid on stuff. The tests seem to be aimed mostly at beginners, and I've never even been able to get them to work properly. I can't activate my acct there without completing any tests, and for whatever reason I can't get the testing part to work right. Their support desk just says to "keep trying". I don't know what test they'd give that would qualify someone to bid on a project like this, but it's probably got something to do with Photoshop -- which has very little to do with how to make a Wordpress theme.)

WP doesn't have to be too much at all for a simple site, as long as you get a competent theme creator to get it together for you. If you can, it's way better to use WP instead of static HTML as it will make it much easier and faster to update, you'll be able to take advantage of the SEO benefits, you'll get access to all the plugins, and you'll have something you can easily expand on later if needs be.

As far as Joomla vs Wordrpess, Joomla isn't simple at all. I only use Joomla if there is something quite complex I need to achieve that Wordpress cannot do. Otherwise, save yourself hassle and time and just go with Wordpress.

For the design you put up, a good theme designer should be able to knock that out for between $100 - $200. Then you just use an auto installer to setup WP yourself, apply the theme, add your content and you're away.

Oh and the thing to remember with Artiseer, whilst it does seem to be excellent for knocking out themes that look the way you want, is that it uses a looot of excess code. This can slow down search engine spiders, so get someone to make clean code for you if you can.

If you what a "simple" 3-4 page website then stick with WP.

Putting something simple on the Joomla platform would be like buying a new Ferrari and staying 5 miles under the the speed limit.

If it's only going to be 3-4 pages I'd just hand code it in html(or php)/css... it will be much lighter weight, faster to load, and not that hard to do.

Joomla makes me want rub lemons in my eyeballs. OK, not really, but I hate it. Joomla is complicated. I could see using it for a big site, but for a teeny little site, it's like using a sledge hammer on a brass tack.

Even WordPress is a bit much for a 3-4 page website, especially if you're certain it won't grow much bigger than that. Just the WordPress installation itself eats up a fair chunk of disk space. However, if you have "unlimited" web hosting, that may not be an issue.

If I *had* to choose one or the other for a mini site, I'd definitely pick WordPress.
