The best way to attract GREAT affiliates?

Hi

I have a Clickbank software product (see sig.) that I want to attract great affiliates to - ones who can get a lot of targeted traffic to the site and as a result enjoy a lot of sales.

I was musing tonight over a few techniques I could use and thought of these:
  • A fun bonus, such as Nintendo Wii for the biggest sales each month
  • I could do a video of myself talking of the benefits of promoting the product, the sales to hops ratio, refunds etc. The video making it a personal one-to-one thing. And place this on the affiliate page and post on Digital Point and WSO
  • The classic 100% commission bribe, if a certain level of sales are reached.
I have tried contacting review site owners, but most are reluctant to change their site once they have it working nicely for them. My product is relatively late in the market so suffers from not being reviewed as much as the other products.

So what do you think of these ideas, do you have any others? Any CB software vendors out there who would like to share how they increase their affiliate numbers?

    cj
    sharesale.com
    shareit.com
    regnow.com etc.

Give the affiliates the stuff and content that they will be able to use in their campaigns.

If you can give your affiliates keywords, articles, videos, banner, logos, signatures and all of the other stuff that your competitor does not take the time to create and make available, you stand a much better chance of being promoted by more affiliates.

You're going to find it pretty hard to attract decent affiliate by simply approaching
them and saying, "Hey... my product is great and you should promote it. Here's
    why..."

I've tried that before and trust me... it doesn't work. Instead, you need to stand
out. In my opinion (and from my experience), the best way to build a relationship
with a potential affiliate is to first promote any product they have. This starts
you off on the right foot... you're first GIVING without ASKING.

Most times, the affiliate will reciprocate by promoting your offer.

After you promote them, mail them and say something like, "Hey... I just ran a
promotion for your site and it did pretty well. I have a similar product I'm trying
to get some eyes in front of. Would you mind looking it over to see if it's
something your subscribers would be interested in?"

DON'T ask them to promote it... ask them to review it. If it's any good at all,
they'll promote it. If it's not... they won't.

    I hope this helps!

Offer to set up and host a series of pages for them.

One page builds their list .

One page for an upsale .

One page for the product at a better commission than offered to other affiliates .

You would be surprised at the affiliate marketers who have no idea how to build a list .

@Troy - thanks I am doing something like this right now but it is a slow process as I am myself learning all the tricks of the trade but the hosting idea was one I had where by the affiliate just needs to bum-market and send their traffic to their domain name, which they redirect via DNS to a landing page I have created for them.

@Jesse Kemmerer - nice idea, I will think about that - I am promoting other products but I don't feel I have enough success at that yet to pipe up about it, but I will keep trying.

@kevinfar - yes I am doing that - I always here that the really good affiliates aren't after this stuff though, is that correct? I mean I think a good affiliate would create their own promotional material which suits the way they are marketing?

@radhika - nice idea but I'm not sure that the effort in setting that all up (the different payment methods, the back end code etc. ) would pay off, it isn't hard for someone to become a CB affiliate, its a hell of a lot easier the being a CJ one for example where you have to apply to CJ and then to the indivdual programme. Maybe I just feel too at home with CB!

Thanks guys for your help so far...

I never use the provided material for a product . My list would realize it was not me by the second sentence .

I don't do a lot of affiliate marketing anymore but my list has actually complained to me for offering affiliate products to them. They are used to my own stuff.

Some producers have actually set up my own pages for me to keep their part in the process a secret .

Offer 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes for top 3 sellers for the month.
Also the more resources you have for your affiliates the greater chances you have for
    getting more affiliates.

I have personally called certain affiliates to introduce myself to them. Better yet work out a jv if possible with them, a webinar or even hold an interview with them to promote to your list. This works like magic and gets you both noticed- a complete win/win!
