Can someone explain RSS

Ok, so I know what it is and what it does but I can not come up with how to have it work with my wordpress blogs.

Can someone explain it in a way that a complete newbie to the term can understand? I went to a site but it asks for channel names etc and i have no idea...

Thanks (said while hanging my head with asking such a simple question)

    Here you go.

So you want to encourage visitors to your site to subscribe to your RSS Feed.

Then whenever you update your blog with a new post your RSS subscribers are updated and alerted to your new post.

The old days we would try to get visitors to "bookmark" our site. This is a new form of bookmarking.

Try the search function, using keywords like "syndication feed" or "really simple syndication" and see what you can find.

I found this thread, which was the closest for what you are looking for: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...nding-rss.html

There are a couple of really good, really cheap WSOs on making good money with RSS feeds as well if you feel like spending $7-$10 to learn how to make money using RSS.

      Good luck!

Basically RSS is just a way that people can access your blogs content using a third party program called a rss reader. This means that every time you make a post it will also add that info to your rss file. The person will access their reader and see your content rather than having to visit your site.

Most blogging platforms like Wordpress, Typepad, Drupal etc do all this automatically.

So say I go to your ssite and you provide a RSS feed. I add your rss feed to my reader and then anytime you make a post it tells me and I access my reader to read your post.

Obviously it goes much deeper however that is the basics.
