Hello everyone,

I just started constructed my first site in a long time, and I noticed that I really stink when it comes to putting up a website. Are there any things to learn as far as modifying a website template, do all internet marketers know enough html to create their own website using notepad?

I don't know many people who use notepad, dremaweaver is preferred. I forget you posted a great blog post, i think Jon Volk, about making $50k from a free web template. So it's really up you to.

Many marketers here are proficient with HTML, but there are also sucessful marketers who don't code - they farm out the work or just use existing templates or themes.

I do both, but I don't use Notepad - there are proper text editors like PS Pad or Notepad++ that are much better.

I'd suggest that you build a WordPress site so you can concentrate on your sites content and structure without having to worry about coding.

  • You want to waste time building sites or you want to work on selling products.

Find a CMS you like, find a template. Then move on. I can put up a WordPress site in about an hour including base content and all the plug ins.

I can do the same with Joomla in about 2 hours.

And you can too. Just learn one and then move on to what matters. Let the CMS and Template do the drudgery for you.

I would recommend grabing a template and doing stuff. If you have no experience with web design.

There is also sites where you can buy professional templates for $40-$80. It's not expensive.. as a website done.. would cost you at least $100-$200.

I use Notepad to make my own websites. I've written three books on the topic (print books). If you want to learn check out the link in my signature file, right now it goes straight to the tutorials.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

Setting up a WordPress site is easier than building a static site for newbies, IMO.

Usually all hosts provide some sort of 1-click installer for WordPress.

Can I have several different websites (domains) using the one instalation of wordpress?

NVU and Kompozer are 2 open source wysiwyg editors you can use in case you don't want/ can't get dreamweaver.

like most IM products have the same basic structure, you can grab or create your own template once and then just use it changing a couple of leading images (header and outside background).

if you need something more complex, you can use a cms.

Yes setting up wordpress is way quicker and will get you to your goal of making money than learning how to build a static site.
