Operating Paid Forums

OK I'll make this short and sweet. I don't like to waffle

If you can recommend a site, info product, a WSO, or information regarding operating a paid forum (ala the Warrior Forum but in a different niche), I would appreciate some direction.

Thanks folks

      Things like:
      • Pros and Cons of the various forum scripts (vBulletin seems popular)
      • Plugins (?) or however extras are managed ... I know for example that this forum rewords things like bl**k h*t to bluefart, etc
      • Spam control, user management, etc
      • Things I don't already know / things to look out for or be aware of
      • How to add custom sections (like you can do WSOs here...how do you enforce the way it operates)
      • Integrating payment
      • setting up forums, access control, etc
That kind of thing. Basically "owning and operating a paid forum"

  • vBulleting + Amember works like a charm once you have it set up and running (which is a bit of a pain in the butt as the installation is not as straight forward as it might seem).

Careful with paid forums though: it will suck your time silly. People who pay for forums expect the "community leader" (you) to address all their questions and to contribute in the forums daily, otherwise they'll simply move to free forums. Also, please mind that you need an initial critical mass to get the forum alive, otherwise no one will pay for a ghost town of a forum.

I ran a paid forum few years ago and I quit because the amount of time it involved (answering, adding content, moderating, removing spam, etc) was ridiculous. It was almost a full time job in itself!
