I'm not sure what happened but my traffic for my site dried up.

My site doesn't have a specific topic that it focuses on. This site is more of a personal blog, where I post articles on anything I feel like writing about. But I have made 8 dollars through an affiliate advertisment.

But the main thing is I just want readers. I synchronized this blog with my facebook notes so I started off getting traffic there. Then google organic traffic began to come in, and eventually surpassed the facebook and referal traffic.

But then that began to dry. The most intense amount of traffic came when I wrote the most. The month of november I wrote 29 articles for the site. December I have written I think 9 posts. I see a correlation between the amount of content I write and the amount of traffic I recieve. It seems that 9 articles won't fetch me any traffic, but 29 brings me in a decent amount.

I do plan on writing, as this is what I made the website for, but I don't want to have to write 29 articles before I see traffic. I am also wondering if a new website will usually start off stronger, then die off after a bit?

From what I have learned though is that content is key to getting traffic. If I want to make an affiliate site, I need to have lots of good content on it. But How can I make this content more effective so I need less of it to achieve the same results as a lot of it?

If you don't have a main keyword or topic you're content is revolving around then your traffic will probably be sporadic at best until you get a real fan base going. If you want to build up traffic over time then you should start targeting keywords, long tail and broad keywords just as long as you're targeting something.

On the other hand if you're writing content that people really want to read go through and ask other bloggers if they'd accept a guest post from you... You can also get heavy into social networking like facebook, twitter, etc... and make a youtube account and start making some vids.

Thanks guys, this has been a lot of help. I think your info will help me more with more targeted sites. I can see how a more personal and unfocused site will have more uneven traffic.

    Thanks.

Everybody says "content is king" but great unique content doesn't necessarily mean you will make money. I have past colleagues who put up their comletely unique Ph.D. thesis but could only earn a few dollars per month in Adsense. You need to know how to get traffic, in particular through SEO.

It could be quite demoralizaing if you continue not to make money. Perhaps you could consider bundle off some of your new unique articles and sell them as PLR, or try some article marketing as well.

Content is very important. But you need to do more traffic getting methods in order to keep the traffic going.

Posting everyday is important, but if you aren't building incoming links, and if you aren't analyzing your keyword phrase focus, and if you aren't building a list...

Well, your traffic is going to dry up. You must do something beyond posting each day to keep the traffic coming.

What is right for you depends on what you really want to achieve. The fact is, blogs about just anything don't do well. They typically don't do well making money. But even for the purpose of just getting viewers, you need to focus on something much more specific than just anything personal.

    Have a great day

Thanks everybody. So what your saying is that having great content is good, but I need to make I have traffic coming to it or it will not do any good. If nobody is seeing my great content, then the content will do no good. This makes lots of sense.

Thank you all very much, and sdentrepreneur I joined your group it is full of great info, thank you.
