What do people do if English is not their first language?

One thing they can do is to offer translation services, especially if their first language is Chinese.

For example, if you go to the Clickbank marketplace, you will find many
products that are in Spanish and other languages.

I am going to assume that this person speaks a language that many other
people speak.

That's the market he should go after.

I don't agree with you here Steve. I mean it is right that someone who only speaks spanish perfectly should target the spanish market. But in some cases there are markets that really suck for IM.

For example. I was born in Germany. I tried to tap into the german market and all I can tell you is that the conversions suck big time. Germans have a different mindset than people from america when it comes to online activities. They hate to give out their credit card numbers and I really have never met someone in Germany who was wiling to give his credit card information away online.

I tried hard but only made a few pennies nothing worth it. I prefer to work with the english speaking market

Actually Toni, you're right. This business model does NOT work for all
languages, but for many...it kills.

You do have to do your research and see if there is a market in YOUR
language, just like you would to see if there was a market for the product
in general.

Right here.
But IM in spain (or some other country) isn't only one market.
It is a bundle of many markets you could try.
Some may work, some not.

Thats not complete correct.
Yes, they have a different mindset and they dont want to give out credit cards information.
But there is a growing online market in germany, you just have to know how to search. That they don't want to pay via CC doesn't meant that they don't buy via internet.
I've good experiance with AdSense, amazon (germans like to buy books online) and some other PPs.

The german market is completly different so you have to target other niches and other conversation rules here. Forget eBooks and reports here for example! For many germans they all smell like shxx.
But IM still works.
And the visitors come via google in germany, too.

So i would say try you home market - but use your knowlegde of the people there.
What may work in USA wouldn't work in Germany or madagaskar.

Also potentially find a partner who has learned to speak this person's first language (if that makes sense). They may be able to come to some kind of content swapping arrangement, eg. five articles for five articles, and each can translate the other's work into quality content in their own first language.

It's rough because content written by a non native English speaker sticks out like a sore thumb.. Either save and invest a little in an article writer or focus on producing content for their native language.

One thing you have to remember is that, if you can't speak well enough to advertise it, you can't speak well enough to support it and probably can't write well enough to create it.

BTW MOST translators are WORTHLESS! If you are LUCKY, they are only good enough to get the idea across.

Outside of spelling differences and the fact that English probably adopts more foreign words AS IS, German is MUCH harder. It has genders on nouns, declension, different word order(Pretty much unique to german, against other west european languages), etc.... Spanish, by contrast, only has 2 genders(german has 3), and NO declension. Also, the word order in Spanish, like english, but NOT german, is the standard way.

It's always healthy to study the language preferred - English. It's the very first step. There are online translation tools readily available that can be used to know more English words from a native language.

Articles are CHEAP! IF you speak the language, the REAL cost can be ZERO!!!!!! If you DON'T speak the language, it will probably be HUNDREDS of dollars, maybe THOUSANDS! The $3-$5 you mention is a PIPEDREAM because that is to MAYBE write an article. HOW do you know it will even be understood!?!?!? Your best bet would be to have a HUMAN translation service check it out, and THEY are expensive! You can't even outsource that to a country foreign to the language, because they may NOT do a decent job. Some areas of India "speak English", but you should NOT outsource translation to English to India unless YOU know what you are doing!

I agree unfortunately: the internet, and specially the IM world, is dominated by the English language. You must have a strong command on this language if you want to make it into this business.

I have proof read and changed articles for non English speakers.

Use a translation service (free) and then pass the article to a native English speaker for proof reading, it seems to work.

Hey Sara,

The real question should be this... What skills do they have to bring to the table? If he's good at creating graphics, taking pictures, editing video, etc.. He may be able to find someone who would like to partner with him.

You don't mention what the native language is, which can make a big difference in how easy it is to work in language specific markets. Also, is this person still in the country of their native language or elsewhere?

You could have an ideal partnership for someone if they are great in taking pictures, videos, etc.. if they live in a country with a good tourist trade.

In this time and age, it's one of the MOST spoken languages in the world. This is like someone not knowing how to use the internet in our time and age.
