My Wordpress blog has gone phooey!!

Hi Gang

I had a blog installed in the main directory, I've then since moved this (the files) into a sub directory called Blog, it seemed to be fine for a week and now I've looked and the info seems to be ok, but the formatting is completely blank:

Learn Heavy Metal Guitar

also, I can't seem to get into my wp-admin, I would assume it would now be http://learnheavymetalguitar.com/blog/wp-admin but it says the file cannot be found.

Is there a quick fix for any of this oppsoed to re-installing the whole thing again??

Thanks
Phil

Download wordpress (the version installed on your site!)

upload copies of the wp-admin index and login files via ftp. if you have bigger problems, try an upgrade.

Cool, sounds like that should sort out the login issue, I wonder if that will sort out the formatting issue? I'll give it a try - Thanks, Phil.

So you have moved all the WP-Content, WP-Includes and WP-Admin files to the /blog location on your server.

You need to change your site url in your MySQL database to reflect the new location. Go into your phpmyadmin and open up your database and add the /blog to the end of your domain name. (Site address and blog address)

Once you do that, you should be able to access /blog/wp-admin

I think it is most likely that you have forgotten to change the .htaccess as your original one is running on the root directory and now you have made a switch to sub-directory.

You will need to change these 2 info in .htaccess:

    RewriteBase /blog/
    RewriteRule . /blog/index.php [L]

phil: You need to change the values of 'site_url' and 'home' values from Learn Heavy Metal Guitar to Learn Heavy Metal Guitar via phpMyAdmin.

Follow this step-by-step guide: WordPress Site URL Guide

Ah! Yeah, I didnt read your post properly phil. If youve moved the blog youll have to update your settings like the guys above me said.

Sorry! I thought your login page had simply disappeared. (I've deleted them on accident a few times)

Ha, I just check your site, seems you need to change the database first:
        wp_options table
        siteurl:domain/blog
        home: domain/blog

and, I think your .htaccess file must need update also.

Well, there are a whole lot of stuff to be edited.. I wouldn't go and edit them all. I'd just back up the database (AND even the whole blog in case of an error) and reinstall it on the sub-directory.

I've been there, things can get really ugly if you try to edit all those values. My theme structure got disrupted. Every page gave me a 500 error. All the links stopped working. I had to ask a pro to get it fixed later.

    Just saying,
    Sumit.

The page you have listed above, is misformatted becasue your css files aren't where Wordpress thinks they are:

    http://learnheavymetalguitar.com/wp-content/themes/grundgerock/style.css

Copy and paste this text link into your browser and you will come up with an error.

In other words, this css file (used to control the look and layout of your site) isn't at that address.

You just need to figure out what you did that screwed it up and correct it.

Yep. Most people tends to forget about the .htaccess when the shift their blogs to a sub-domain or directory.

Once you have set the .htaccess, remember to change the setting for the wordpress to access from the sub-directory.

Just go through the setting and make sure you have everything correctly setup.

Do you still have the original (unedited) files that you moved, Phil?
