Adwords questions from a newbie... Please help!!

11 replies
OK, I set up a few websites for adsense to try out that system. www.blacklabpuppies.net , www.xpprinter.com and www.meshbackofficechair.com. I have several Ad Units and Ad links on my website. I have a few questions that I am hoping a more experienced adsense person(s) can answer or clear up for me.

1) I have had 1 click today, but show no money in the "Estimated earnings" column. Why is that? I thought I got paid every time someone clicked on one of my ads.

2) How do you know if an ad is paid by the click or by the 1,000 impressions? Is there a way to choose which are displayed on my websites?

3) How do you know or estimate how much you should be paid per click? or is it possible?

4) Is there a way to optimize the ads to make the most money per click on any keyword after the website is created?

5) Is there a delay in the adsense reports or is it 100% accurate and on exact time?

6) how can you tell how much a specific website has made in adsense? For example, I am using the same code for each of the websites above, is there a way to tell how much each website has made?

Thank you all for reading this and adding your $.02 to my questions.

    Yes, I meant Adsense, not Adwords. I changed it. Thank you!

    You are going to need a ton more content and have the adword white background match the color of its surroundings so it blends in.

    Some suggestions:

    1. Get rid of RSS icons/links for posts and comments
    2. Blend the ads. i.e., change their background to match w/ the site
    3. Change the main heading to be the keyword, not the domain name. Ex.: 'Black Lab Puppies' instead of 'BlackLabPuppies.net'.
    4. The square ad block in the sidebar is getting cut off. You might want to increase the width of content area
    5. Get rid of stuff like "Posted by admin - December 26, 2009 at 4:44 PM", "Be the first to comment - What do you think?", categories, tags and "WordPress Theme by"
    6. On the pages, the title is repeating. You might want to edit the page and remove it from the content.

      1) I have had 1 click today, but show no money in the "Estimated earnings" column. Why is that? I thought I got paid every time someone clicked on one of my ads.

      - You only get paid if someone actually takes the time to look at the ad after clicking it. So, if they click and skip within seconds, obviously not taking the time to read the ad, you don't get paid, and the advertiser doesn't get charged.

      2) How do you know if an ad is paid by the click or by the 1,000 impressions? Is there a way to choose which are displayed on my websites?

      - Don't even worry about this, since you'll rarely--at least that's been the case on my sites--get paid for impressions. And if you aren't using any image ads, it's a moot point.

      3) How do you know or estimate how much you should be paid per click? or is it possible?

      - Check your keywords in the Google Keyword Tool. The amounts shown there are what the advertiser is charged, not what you are paid. I've read that you might get paid around a third of that, but I'm fairly sure that's pure conjecture, since I've also heard that you get about a tenth. And if Google smart prices you, you'll only get pennies per click, regardless of what you see there. I average about .15 cents per click on my busiest site. On one of my smaller niche sites I've managed to get more than $5.00 per click. It all depends on your niche.

      4) Is there a way to optimize the ads to make the most money per click on any keyword after the website is created?

      - Google MAY pay you more if/when your site becomes better than your competition's site, but I'd say that's a bit of a crap shoot.

      5) Is there a delay in the adsense reports or is it 100% accurate and on exact time?

      - I think it's real time or close to it, but there is a lag for a variety of reasons at times.

      6) how can you tell how much a specific website has made in adsense? For example, I am using the same code for each of the websites above, is there a way to tell how much each website has made?

      - Set up channels in your adsense account, then you can track to your heart's content.

      I am not very knowledgeable in Wordpress. I am learning, but it is a slow process and am having problems finding some answers.

      I got done #'s: 2,3 and 6 from the list above. They all make great sense and I agree 100% with your recomendations.

      My question is how do I do #'s 1, 4 and 5? I am using heatMaps Theme and can't find any place to get rid of those items. I've looked on the themes support website, but don't find anything there.

      I don't want the comments or the RSS thing on the website. I very much dislike the "Be the first to comment" box, the "Posted by", the "Tags", etc., but haven't figured out how to remove them yet. Also, how do I change the content width to make more room for the Adsense blocks? If anyone can give me a process or point me in the right direction to do #'s 1, 4 and 5, I would greatly appreciate it!

      Thank you,

    I am sorry, but I am not a big fan of giving out my login and password. Plus, I plan on setting up a lot of these little Adsense websites, so I need to learn how to do it myself. Could you give directions on how to do that and where to go in wordpress?

    Thank you,

    Sure.

    1. Change line 392 of your theme's stylesheet from

    Code:
    #rss-bar {
    display:inline;
    float:right;
    font-size:1em;
    height:28px;
    min-height:28px;
    overflow:hidden;
    padding:0;
    width:352px;
    }
    to

    Code:
    #rss-bar {
    display:none;
    float:right;
    font-size:1em;
    height:28px;
    min-height:28px;
    overflow:hidden;
    padding:0;
    width:352px;

    }
    4. Make the following changes in the CSS:

    Code:
    #content {
    width:610px;
    ...}
    Code:
    #sidebar-wrapper {
    width:345px;
    ...}
    Code:
    #bottom-widebar, #top-widebar {
    width:336px;
    ...}
    I didn't these in IE.

    5. Paste the content of your theme's single.php and page.php to pastebin - Type, paste, share. and give me the links.
